short throw shifter
hi i recently put a short throw shifter in my car and i noticed there is alot of play in gear but it was also like that with my stock shifter someone told me that it goes **** boot snap ring bearings or bushings but there were none on my car when i took the stock one off its a 97 civic dx can any one help me? i was looking for a diagram online i had no luck i want to get a manual but thats 20 bucks i dont have at the time any help would be appreciated thank you
if you get some shifter bushings from either energy suspension or protane that should clear up some of the slop in the shifter. there are 2 in a set. 1 up near the transmission and 1 on the back of the thing that holds the shifter up to the body. If you look under your car you'll see what i mean

i also recently installed a short shifter and it seems to rub on i guess it would be a heat sheild cuz its fine shifting from 1-2-3 then its a little harder to get into 4th and 5th and reverse is also alittle rough.so i put the stock one back in i didnt know if this was normal or if it would screw up my transmission.any sugg.it is a ebay buy but it looks identical to the neuspeed shifter.
Usually you only get rubbing with the cheap shifters like Ebay ones (yes, I DID have one). Over time they rot out and get sloppy too. Solution: stay with stock (shorties don't really give you any true added performance anyhow) or get one that uses stock pivot type like B&M. You can only shift so quickly an not be cranking on your synchros.
