if you get some shifter bushings from either energy suspension or protane that should clear up some of the slop in the shifter. there are 2 in a set. 1 up near the transmission and 1 on the back of the thing that holds the shifter up to the body. If you look under your car you'll see what i mean

i also recently installed a short shifter and it seems to rub on i guess it would be a heat sheild cuz its fine shifting from 1-2-3 then its a little harder to get into 4th and 5th and reverse is also alittle rough.so i put the stock one back in i didnt know if this was normal or if it would screw up my transmission.any sugg.it is a ebay buy but it looks identical to the neuspeed shifter.

Usually you only get rubbing with the cheap shifters like Ebay ones (yes, I DID have one). Over time they rot out and get sloppy too. Solution: stay with stock (shorties don't really give you any true added performance anyhow) or get one that uses stock pivot type like B&M. You can only shift so quickly an not be cranking on your synchros.
