Default Rookie Mistake (need expert advice!! Please

I f*cked up big time after doing a perfect valve adjustment. I tightend two of the valve cover bolts to tight and they snapper off. I actually didn't really tighten it that much, it snapped off pretty easy. If anyone can direct me to a site that sells replacement studs or has a partnumber or anyway of fixing this, that would be great. Thanx in advance

No biggie, I did the same thing last week. take a run to your local acura dealership and go to the parts dept. tell the great people behind the counter what you did and they'll let you take a peak on their computer to identify exactly which studs are broken. they've probably got them in stock. their are two different lenths if i recall. it's easy to put the new ones on though. just use an open ended or deep socket 10mm... or was it 12mm? either way, you ge the idea. It's a pie job. And the more I think about it, I think it was 10mm. Just take your time and don't torque it in their so hard.

It's either 7 or 12 ft-lbs if I remember correctly. That is not much at all, so invest in a torque wrench if you don't have one.

86 inch pounds. I have one that is snapped. I was going to replace it when I did my valve adjustment, but forgot to buy the nut that goes on top. I have the chrome one only Hopefully, I will get it right next time.

The top nuts should be tightened down to 7.2 ft/lbs. (helms manual)

That's for the stud into the head, not for the valve cover nuts.

Valve cover nuts 7.2 ft/lbs. NOT 20 ft/lbs

I second that! 7.2 ft/lbs. for the valve cover nuts.

You can go to any dealer and they should have them or order them for you. Otherwise go to http://www.ahmotor.com for honda parts.

I was replying to 1fastgsr who was commenting about the stud. That is 19ft lbs. The 10 mm acorn nut can be tightened by hand. Just make it snug. You don't need to torque that.
