What does an open dumptube sound like?
What does the an open dump tube sound like with a 35mm wastegate installed?
I've searched before, but only found 1 thread - which really wasn't much help.
Does the wastegate make a "rat-tat-tat" sound when the specified boost pressure is reached? Or is it supposed to be quiet?

I'm sorry - maybe I should rephrase my question.
What is the wastegate supposed to sound like when it actuates?
I know what the sound of the actual open dump tube is - but I am just curious to know if the wastegate is supposed to make a lot of racket when it actuates....

i have an open dump on my car, its a d16, drag mani, t3, and a deltagate. whenever the gate opens up, it just gets REALLY loud, like BAM! INSTANT NOISE!
its kinda cool, i like it, but some people hate it. IMO it sounds very mean when it opens up. it definitely sounds mildly frightening.

it is hard to describe. It is just really loud and obnoxious. My new dump tube is like 1.75 inches and really close to the ground. When it dumps it is so loud I can not hear anything. I can not even hear v-tec pop anymore.
Loud is a relative term....
Mine is loud. BUT - I can hear my wastegate valve banging against the the valve guide (rat a tat tat)....I've read on here that 1 other user posted something like this before - but that thread died.
The wastegate seems to work great (holds pressure, doesn't creep, etc) - its just loud, and I wondered if this is normal or what....

It sounds cool in first and second, but in thrid and forth when the motor is at full load it sounds like CRAP, I hated it. So I recirculated it back into the DP and its MUCH better.
Heres a video of an eclipse with open dump..
GT32/?? turbo with tial wastegate(dumped to the ground)..Also HKS cams,,
Car coming at you..Idling,,accelerating away from you and in-car..(No music)

You shouldn't hear the valve tapping around when the wastegate opens. All you should hear is the sound of exhaust, nothing else

Same effect as running a larger downpipe. At least thats my theory on it. Under boost the exhaust will choose to flow the less restrictive route (AKA the dump tube).

The open dumps I've heard all sounded different.
Most noteable are the 4G64 with a 16G sounds like barfing noises when the wastegate opens and a friend's SR20DET with a T3/T04e that sounds like a motorcycle with an exhaust.
The ACV-R's wastegate solenoid was a lot louder than the GReddy Profec Spec B's in my experience. It clicks so fast and loud it sounds like Edward Scissor Hands on a type writer.
