how long are koni yellow shock bodies?
and how long are stock shocks? any one have measurements?
thanks!
specificlly, i want to know the length of the front shock bodies and the rod fully extended too.
thanks!

Tell us more.
What car? What are you trying to accomplish? Are they Neuspeed Koni's?
I have a set of 88-91's and fronts off a 92-92 civic and some rears off a 96-00 civic.
Let me know and I will take some measurements for ya!

any of them will work (88-00 civic/integra) they are all basiclly the same. basiclly tell me what you have. i hear the neuspeed spec ones are a little shorter (i use to have them for my ek).
really, the reason i ask is i'm comparing to VW mk1 strut cartridge front inserts.
i'm retro fitting either the VW koni yellow componants or the 88-00 koni yellow on to my 1979 civic 1200 (there is very little aftermarket support for these cars).
i'm going with which ever is shorter (so i can keep as much travle i can when i lower it). i want to stay with konis incase i want to get them revalved in the future.
thanks man. just noticed you're from kirkland!

btw, neuspeed ones arent shorter, nor is the rod shorter. it just has a limiter that only lets the rod stick out of the shock a little less than normal.

He is correct, it's called a droop limiter. Can you guess what it does
. The valving is identical to OTS koni's too.

The 88-91 front shocks are 25mm longer then the 92-95 front shocks.
I will measure in a few minutes....we will have to account for shortening the shock since these have been shortened for racing....I am pretty sure Koni cuts 20mm off the shock body, so we can just add that back into my measurements to determine the lenght of a OTS Koni.

You can't use the Civic front in the '79 because the they are shocks with a 12mm hollow rod and the '79 requires struts which will require a much thicker rod in the ballpark of 20+ mm. Find a way to install them and you will bend the shock rods very quickly from the side loading if you don't snap them off completely. I don't know what your strut tube diameter is but I would suggest something like the already race valved 8610-1149 which has a 12.99 inch body length or the new 8610-XXXX that we are designing that that is 11.50 inch body length. The critical number is the ID and inside length of your '79s strut tube. Unless of course you change your front suspension over to an upper and lower control arm system from the current strut, then a Civic/CRX shock would be fine.
Get those numbers and I'll see what we can come up with that fits.
