Default HELP: car starts at 2500 rpms and keeps rising!!

we just took off the intake manifold to replace it, the new one didnt fit... so we put the stock b16 one back on. new gaskets on the TB and IM.

it starts at like 2500rpms and just keeps rising.. anyone have ANY ideas on what could be wrong.. we check over all the vaccume lines and such, but nothing looks wrong.

any help is greatly appriciated..

Is the throttle cable too tight, holding the throttle open?

nope. snaps closed to the point where it sits on the little allen screw. even tried adjusting that, nothing.

we tried resetting the ecu... added coolant, adjusting the throttle...

the idle controll has no effect whatsoever.

I'd look for a leak in the intake manifold then, air is sneaking in somewhere.

Spraying carb cleaner around all the gaskets and things can sometimes locate it, or so I hear... Any one else have an idea?

I've heard this too. I thought you used starter fluid. When I swapped intake manifolds I sprayed starter fluid around the gaskets. Nothing happened. No leaks for me.

What happens when you find the leak? Do you use starter fluid or carb cleaner?

I think anything combustable with work, the idea is that when the motor sucks it in, the rpm changes a little, letting you know when you've found it. Starter fluid would work too, but I would stick to carb cleaner, maybe a little safer...

yes...carb cleaner is the way to go...if there is a leak you will hear a change in the rpm....its like adding more fuel to the mix and sucking it in right through the leak...i use this method all the time...

you didn't either clean the gasket off the head good enough or you dont have the bolts tight enough on the intake manifold to the head. this has happened to me before.
