Default when money becomes an issue, I guess custom works best :-(

My civic is getting fixed and is also getting a full body paint job. I def need a new exhaust system. Mines is rusty, and broken. I was thinking of buying an HKS catback but my money is running low. From what I have researched, the cheapest way to go would be with a 2 - 2.5 pipe. Custom made from a muffler shop with no cat. The only problem is, the sound, Im very picky with it, I hate fart pipes, or buzzin bee sound. I like throaty sound, almost like side exit headers. so I guess it boils down to the following:

I need someone with a 2 - 2.5 straight pipe, with no catback, with a soundclip of what it would sound like.

I guess the worst thing that can happen is that i would spend from $100 to $200 getting this done, and then not liking the sound. I hate ricey civics, and for that matter, ricey sounds. so help me out.

thanks fellas.

P.S the civic should be out of the shop in like 2 weeks, ill post some pics when is done.

get a 2.25 and have the muffler shop put back the resonator(this would help get that farting sound out) and then your choice of muffler...

one way you could do it would be to just get custom piping with two glasspacks(one in place of where the resonator was, one where the muffler was) ive personally heard this before, and its a fairly deep throaty sound.. i think someone on this forum has this done too..
you can get this for fairly cheap too

yeah, im going for the straight custom pipe deal.
Im guessing it will take no more than $150 probably.

whatever isnt farty like, or buzzlin bee is cool for me.

I do the same thing, when those fart pipes pass by, i simply look at them
and shake my head. Its simply depressing how stupid that **** sounds.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I would save for the HKS/Greddy (sp). I can't recall ever hearing a custom system ever sound as deep as the HKS/Greddy systems. And the cool thing is that my SP is very quiet until you actually let her breath a bit, then she screams. But the main difference in sound is that it seems like custom exhausts only have one tone, which increases with volume. The other catbacks go from a very deep rumbling to all out howling.

2 1/4" max, have them take it straight out the back with whatever muffler will fit. Definitely need a resonator or you're ears will be bleeding. Sounds a wee bit deeper than stock and nothing close to a fart can. I'd post the sound clip but I ran my b16a to rich for too long and my cat is shot. Cost me 150 bones at the local muffler shop.

alright, then 2.25 to 2.50 it is.
I will make tell them to make it straight to the back. Or as with few turns as possible. I def need a cat or else I would be ticketed or my ears will hurt.

yes, I would love to go with an HKS but I already gave $2300 to get my civic fixed and full body paint and repair. so my cash is running very low. I gotta scratch every single penny from now on :-( for like a month or two.

4gCRX, please get me those soundclips, my AIM name is CSprogR34. Thanks bro

I have a stock B16A. Short ram intake, stock IM, stock headers, 2.25 highflow cat, 2.25 midpipe with 16"? resonator, 2.25 Sebring muffler.

It sounds "throaty". Has a bit of vibration sound at very high RPM (when I hit VTEC).

This vid (more like a sound clip since u cant see ****) was taken right beneath the muffler. That is why it sounds loud... but you can barely hear the exhaust... trust me, my intake is louder

yeah, that sounds about right. but instead of short ram im going with a cold air intake, possibly from injen since it gotten better reviews than AEM. I wanted to build my civic with everything from HKS but they dont seem to make all the parts that I need for my civic. also, money is always an issue, as for most of us.

at the moment, the muffler that the civic came with is almost falling off, it still sounds good though. its very similar to that sound clip that you posted but I think if I hit a bump, or even speed up, the muffler will fall right off and smack someone in the head.

thanks for the help fellas, Ill post some pics of my civic as soon as it comes out of the shop.

go with 2.25" pipe, leave the cat (or get highflow cat) and resonator and get a magnaflow muffler. got it on my 88 crx si, its throaty. not one ounce of that ricey buzz sound.

bout 290 shipped, not bad considering back when no exhausts existed for the crx, i bought a pacecrapper exhaust, which was about 2 1/4 piping, the muffler rusted and fell off, but to this day I still have the midpipe on there, holding like a champ. That looks pretty deacent, mandrel bends and 2.5" piping, for that price id be willing to take a chance on it. If you dont like the sound you can always add a glasspack in there.
