Default What do you guys think? Theft prevention?

I'll be picking up a 98 CW ITR from someone in the forum. I was wondering what you guys think about taking off the high spoiler, stickers and getting some rims that cover the lugs to hide the fact that it is five lug? Do you guys think this is a good idea? I've heard of alot of thefts of this car and I just want to play it safe. Of course I'm going to put an alarm, autoloc and club. Am I being too paranoid?

I also have a garage

There just way too tempting for the jack *** theifs, even if you hide it and protect it well. Good luck.

You can do all you want to help hide its an R but to somebody thats looking to steal an R its really not going to matter much. To the ricer eye...it might take them a while to finally realize that its an R, but as stated....to the right, or wrong for this matter, kinds of people it wont mean ****. If you dont have a garage...i wouldn't even buy it!

If you don't have a garage, it will probably get stolen no matter what you do.

Alarms etc. are a total waste of money - and it is not really possible to disguise a CW ITR unless you repaint it.

Use the money for an alarm, and buy a beater. Also cut out a two foot sqaure section of concrete from your garrage. Then place some 5/8 rebar in the hole. Get two 1/2" eye bolts, and bend a 90 on the ends. Place the 90's under the rebar, and pour concrete then float and level. get a big chain and rap around the lower control arm with a damn good lock. Most pad locks can be poped open with a set of open end wrenches. Some one could still steal it, but they would have to make a bit of noise in the process. Good Luck

you can perform a search and get more detailed information. however, in addition to what you mentioned;

multiple kill switches are very very handy and aid in theft prevention
if you want, you can invest in a two way pager alarm
and hood locks.

All very good methods. As stated above a garage is pretty much manditory and buy a secondary daily driver.

All the kill switches and alarms in the world won't do **** to stop a flatdeck.

I have a clifford alarm, boomarang 2 tracking system and a autolock electronic hoodlock. Also I have kill switches and a backup siren concealed by 1/4 welded plate. I would be willing to bet that they give up or go for the flat bed. But how do they get around the tracking system.

One more thing to add about boomarang2 is that I had a bad transponder, but i didn't know it was bad. I moved my car 5 feet to the other side of my driveway and they called me to ask if the car had been stolen.

With a reciever. If it transmits a signal it can be found, and discarded.

Best thing you can do is to just layer security. Maybe even spend the 5 minutes and take out the throttle cable.

take off whatever youd like, but its not gonna stop a flatbed...

disconnect the ecu, take out the spark plug wires, do it all and it can still be flatbedded away without them even knowing you did all that

Or the beauty of it might be the handling....

IMO: Get good insurance. Talk to them about what you'd get in a theft situation.

true, a flatbed won't stop all the bells and whistles, but it certainly eliminates a good portion of all the "small time" unprofessional crooks.

quick release, chain the car to something, wheel boot, a shotgun, a bulldog, car cover, take out the ecu, alarm w/paging system, gps system, hire someone to sleep by it, leave it on jackstands of course in the garage, notify the fbi and cia that your have an itr and needs to be under surveillance 24/7, and dont forget to notify the thieves that if they come within twenty feet of ur car you will allowed to use whatever force necessary to eliminate the threat , but seriously, do what you can.. and just be careful that no one follows u home.. paranoia? its normal for us r owners.. just grab a cup of coffee and let the good times roll.. lol

with the reciever as well, i have heard that those GPS tracking systems can easily be disabled becuase of the transmitter being welded to the frame to use the car as a giant transmitter......a rumor i heard that if you have one of those stun gun things, hold it to the side of the car, you can fry the transmitter......haha would have to be one damn powerful stun gun if you ask me

dont hold your breath, many itr's have been stolen from a gated community before.. i.e. ghettoluvr i believe had his r taken away from a gated community w/ cameras and a security guard.. if they want it all you can do is try to prevent it..
