Problems associated w/ no knock sensor?
Hey guys-- my buddies swapped b18c hatchy doesn't have the knock sensor installed in this car. I was wondering what kind of problems (besides the code) could be associated w/ this sensor. I was assuming that it would retard timing quite a bit-- but what else could be affected. Thanks for reading!
Aj I believe the ecu will go in limp mode and basically like you said pull timing, and might limit how high you can rev so you don't go kaboom. I wouldn' think it would hurt the car in anyway since its in limp mode, install the sensor or get a chipped p28.
i drove around w/ no knock sensor wired up w/ my gsr swap for awhile. ran at the track 14.8 @ 95 w/o it. the car did run fine though... . Once i wired it up there might have been a SLIGHT increase in power? no way to really tell bc i didnt run it again after that. but i have also read that this will retard the ignition by 3 degrees...
best bet would to just wire it up... it was really easy for obd1, u just switch one plug on the ecu clip. search and u will find which...
if you decide to use a chipped p28 opposed to the p72 then u dont have to worry about it. the p28 ecu doesnt look for knock.
