Turbo end / shaft play specs
Turbocharger - checking axial play
1 Install a dial indicator on the exhaust turbine housing so that the plunger end of the indicator is resting on the end of the turbine wheel shaft and is in line with the shaft direction
2 Set the indicator to zero.
3 Press the turbine wheel shaft toward the dial indicator and note the value.
4 Press the turbine wheel shaft away from the indicator and note this value.
5 The difference between the two readings is the value of the end play. The maximum end play which may be noted and still allow usage of the turbocharger is 0.006 in. (0.16 mm). If the end play value exceeds this figure, replace the unit.
Turbocharger - checking radial play
1 Install a dial indicator on the exhaust turbine side of the turbo- charger housing so the end of the indicator rests against the hub. Set the indicator dial to zero (Fig. 4.22).
2 Press the hub toward the indicator and note the \/alue.
3 Press the hub away from the indicator and note this value.
4 The difference between these two values is the radial play. Maximum radial play allowed is 0.017 in. (0.42 mm). If the radial play exceeds this figure, replace the turbocharger unit.

yes, i'm seeing slightly different specs for different brand turbos, but mostly it's .005 - .006 for axial and .017 - .018 for radial.
