Default High Comp, Big Shot, Daily D, Ultimate All Around Thread!!!!

I dunno if you guys even recall my posts but I was recently deciding between a high comp nitrous setup or a mild boost setup. Well I went with the boost setup (10psi) and my motor took a **** after 6 weeks. So I tossed a zc in there to get me around for nwo, but now I wanna try the high comp nitrous route
If you dont have time to read nor help just quit now before you have to read this book Im about to write.

My Setup so far:

A6 Head: (all used 4k miles n/a)
Milled .040
3 angle valve job
ported n polished
Delta 272 cam
dual titanium valve springs
ferrerea retainers
1mm oversized titanium valves
AEM adjustable cam gear

^^ Oversized valves raise compression correct? How much?

Sohc Zc (non-vtec) Block:
JE SRP 9.5:1 Pistons in an A6 (used 3k @ 12psi)
Undecided on rods, probably used eagles
New OEM rod bearings and rings
Micropolished. balnced A6 crank
Undecided on headgasket

Bolt Ons, misc setup
Venom Intake manifold
JG 64MM t/b
DSM 450cc injectors
Dc sport header
2.25" exhaust, cherry bomb muffler to side exit pasenger side (no cat)
BNM Fuel Pressure Regulator

Trannsmission:
Undecided clutch
Fidanza 8pound flywheel (FREE!!)

Engine Manegment/ Spark
OBDO ( hope to stay that way)
Have an ecu already shipped with TurboEdit (dunno how good TE is with nitrous)
Would an Safc II be usueable? (2 settings could be useable)
Pretty much undecided, keep in mind the DSM 450's
I have a wideband and a very shitty laptop so street tuning could possibly be an option?)

The Plan:
Obviously Im young and stupid, work full time supposed to be saving for school but this **** is just to much fun. The Crx is daily driven, so it has to have a somewhat reliable N/A setup that gets descent mileage. But I want to be able to go from that descent mileage N/A (that is still fun to beat on all motor) but be able to to a strip mode very quikc if I catch a run on the highway or at a stoplight.

I plan on running a huge shot of nitrous, maybe 150? Have to keep up with the modified mustangs and big ballas. I am limited to 93 octane gas though, maybe a mixture of xylene? Probably not cost effiecient for daily driven. Would most likely be a direct port, have to figure it out with fitment issues with the venom intake manifold.

An SAFC II has those 2 settings that you can store, I dont know much about these units but it seems like it would work managing the 450's daily driven, but dont they advance timing...? I dunno someone shed some light on that.

My buddy has an MSD unit of some sort, give me a day until I can get that, but Im hoping its the one where you just turn the **** and it automatically retards timing a few degrees, would be great for switching to nitrous mode on the fly correct?

I kind of went away form boost, not because it wasnt fun because it was, but I knew id just keep throwing money at this ****, I already was pricing out an Sc61 and some massive work.

With a direct port nitrous kit I could still have my fun on my own, has a little more sleeper effect.

This is all going to be done on a budget, dont have a set number but the cheaper the better, but I dont mind spending some pennies on something that will be really helpful

I dunno what else to write, Ive got a need for speed and a love for the 1 cam. Throw any ideas and opinions you have at me.

Thanks

my high c/r y8 has a hard time with take offs with my 8 lb. flywheel. A little more rotational mass will help the launch dramatically.

Well said

Also... If you do anything, take all of that engine management equipment and melt it! -- Buy a hondata - get the car tuned... hondata will give you a better tune, and it comes with a nitrous control (s200 system) (retards timing for you)- best way to do it.

Oversized valves wont raise your compression unless they're flat-topped.

Im too lazy to find out our compression... make sure it's not above 11:1 if you're going to spray 150

Use smaller injectors (310s or 345s) -and use a wet n2o setup

Make sure to use a nice 3-layer gasket for n2o (cometic 3-layer is nice)

Well I am unfamiliar with Hondata but can you have a tune for n/a as well as for nitrous?

Compression will be about 10.3:1 or so with the y8 gasket

You couldn't use s200 and stay obd0, you'd have to buy stage2/3/4 or convert.

Also, you don't really need to tune for NA and boost, besides timing as the nitrous corrects for fuel itself. There is an MSD unit that will retard timing while you are spraying.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. These are my plans.

Chipped ECU, have a rom burned on the dyno for my setup. Retard timing a degree or two. Thats really all I was planning on!

Well I have an ecu chipped with turboedit

I also just found out that the MSD unit my friend has is the BTM one, you can adjust it from like setting 0/1/2/3/4 or something, I know it mounts in the cabin

Can grab that for $125 brand new

From everything I've read, as long as your tune off the bottle is good, and you can retard ignition on the nitrous, you should be set as far as tunnig goes. You are running a wet shot I assume? I thought I read direct port. Have fun, should be ahell of a setup.

Need some opinions on this ish

Thanks

turboedit, do a search on ob0 fuel managment options. Get rid of that hack. High compression and sub-par managment is a no-no. Can't believe you were running high comp and a turbo on the hack. Horrible idea.

This may sound retarded but I dont see why it wouldnt work, I just never thought about it. I think the 450's I have are not good, I never knew Direct Port put no extra load on the injectors, so Im thinking something like 310cc injectors would be more than enough for all motor, now I tune it n/a with an SAFC.

Ive got a wideband so tuning on the street would be fairly easy just by watching the a/f while getting on it and making adjustments then go again and keep lowerring the numbers on the SAFC until I get the 12:1 or whatever

Then when I spray the direct port 150, it automatically sprays the correct ammount fuel/nitrous through the hardlines.... right? How does it know how much, just the jets are good enough?

Now thats my plan, I dont see why an SAFC wont work, with 310cc injectors, I wouldnt be running like -35, -37 like people have to when running 450's for boost, Id be like -11 or something like that right? So it wouldnt **** with my timing.....? Correct?

For timing/spark, I have an MSD BTM 6AL, brand new. Anyone give me some ups and downs of this?

Yes Im stupid (for an 18 year old anyways) but Im trying to take all this **** in during the winter while I build my motor (amlost done , just need some gaskets)

******* THANKS YOU!

Well, obviously you are running a wet kit. The way it knows how much fuel to add is that you have to calculate the correct jet size per nitrous jet size....taking into consideration your fuel pressure. Wet kits put no additional load on the injectors. With a good tune off the bottle, and a properly setup nitrous system, you should be just fine once you spray since your air fuel should stay relatively constant. You do, however, still need to worry about timing. Look into MSD boxes that can retard your timing only on the nitrous.

I have an MSD BTM 6AL, it retards per degree of boost right? Like I said Im not to educated yet, still learning

But Im pretty sure it would work pretty sick ****

I know that particular MSD system works by retarding timing by sensing the amount of boost....nitrous doesn't create any boost however, so I'm not sure if it would work or not.

Bullsh*t....you can run nitrous on almost ANY CR including 11:1. You can run as hign as 13.5:1 w/ nitrous, just get the damned thing tuned. Stop spreading lies!

And get hondata s200 w/ nitrous option...but be sure to set it @ 4500rpms or higher (suggest using a two step w/ motion activated (best term to describe) nitrous control. It will be VERY fun, and very fast, just get it tuned before f*ckin with it.

If your last engine took a dump after 6 weeks of boost, I would highly recommend you get your next one professionally tuned, rather than you doing it yourself.

How about you try running 14psi on a 212k beaten motor, see how long your rings last lol
