Default Quaife LSD Install

I'm having some problems figuring this out....I bought the new bearings to go onto the LSD and everything, but I'm not sure exactly what the gear is at the top of the differential. I Know i remove the big ring gear and put it onto the Quaife, but what about the tiny gear at the top. Is that even removable from the stock Diff?

The only pics i have seen are of stock Type R LSD's and they already have this gear on them. And now it seems the search isn't working....

Someone Help me

Ok, I just figured out this is the spedometer gear, but is it removable from the stock diff? And if so how?

Yes, it's removable, but its brittle, so there is a chance of breaking it. If you do break it, you're screwed. Honda doesnt sell it seperately, you'd need to get another differential.

And yes.. you need to transfer it over, otherwise you won't have a working speedo.

May the non gear breaking forces be with you.

I tried heating it up and it didnt work so well. So I ended up using a hydraulic bearing press and the bearing puller tool to press it off and back on the new diff.

I suck because i didn't take any pictures during the install so I will leave you with a pic of my car. The LSD kicks ***...I installed it with an Action 2MD clutch and streetlite flywheel. I like the setup real well, but my motor mounts are really pissed at me

I just ever so gently went around the base of the gear with a flat chisel and brass hammer, being careful to only do a couple of taps in one spot and continue in a circle around the gear. Emphassis on the BASE of the gear, away from the brittle, easy to chip teath. You pretty much need a press to get the new bearings on, though. Good luck, you'll love that quaife!
