YS1 Tranny...Short geared, long geared, what is it?
I just got a B16 swap and it came with a YS1 tranny. I have been told that it is a good drag tranny, but i cant find any info on it. Specs would be great. But any kind of help would be great.
What you have is most likely a '92-93 GSR tranny which does have the tightest gearing of all the cable trannies. It really depends on your setup, NA, FI, etc. as to what it works with best. If your just sticking to a simple all motor setup then it should work fine. It can/will work great for high boost turbo setups as well but there's many more things to bring into consideration (how high you'll be reving, size slick, and your target trap mph). Just my $0.02

Are you sure? Mine is a JDM cable trans that came on a JDM B16 swap and I swear it is tighter than the 92-923 GS-R trans. I am pretty sure my trans has the same gearing as the Type R trans. I am not sure what the code is for my trans since the sticker is missing. I don't know "for sure" but I just wanted to throw this out there.

Ryan just from what I've personally seen it's the tightest cable tranny (that's the the gear ratios basically show too). I have also heard of the YS1 as a common name for DOHC cable trannies which also opens the possibility of getting a nonVTEC one. On Mike's car we've used them all, Y1, J1/S1, just playing with the cruising rpm on the freeway the YS1 has you wound up the highest in 5th at a given mph. As for the cable trannies, we know they suck on high hp setups anyway, you'll soon have a hydro S4C!
Here is a link to a spec chart for trannies, hope this helps.
