the GSR tranny has LONGER ratios so you'll get better fuel economy with that tranny but it won't be optimized for the power curve of the B16 so it won't be as quick as it would with a B16 transmission.

won't you top out at alower speed with the b16tranny than with the gsr tranny because the gears are shorter. as to what speed, that i do not know.

Realistically none of us use the top speed of our cars for anything practical or safe so top speed shouldn't be an issue. The problem with the B16 is that it won't have the power in stock trim to reach the top speed potential of a B16 tranny or GSR tranny for that matter unless you can find a seriously long downhill section of road somewhere.
The GSR tranny will work just fine on the highway and will give you slightly better fuel economy and decent power for passing etc. Just don't expect it to turn super quick numbers on a 1/4 mile strip.

Re: GSR tranny on a b16a1?? (b16a1hatch)
it'll perform like a B16 because that's the engine you have in there. It's the torque of the GSR's 1.8 that makes it respond like a GSR. Your car will work fine with standard bolt on mods.

Re: GSR tranny on a b16a1?? (b16a1hatch)
are you looking for your car to perform like a GSR??? I mean the HP from a GSR and the b16 are different and the engine wont run like a GSR. Like people said before the gear ratio's are different. adding h/i/e will give you approx 20+hp. does that help?

Re: (eL)
I'll tell you the advantage...******* 4 grand at 60-65 mph sucks ***...gsr tranny is sweet...i ran the b16 tranny untill i just couldnt take the high revin no more...yeah i lost a little bit of get up and go...but not enough to lose to a car that i could beat with the b16 tarns....as a matter of fact i only lost a .3 at the track...and thats becuase my tires had more wear than when i had the b16 trans..but be your own judge

i think with a b16 tranny, you'd top out at 140mph at 7500 rpm, not sure for gsr...if you boosted that motor, it would be pimp as ****. thats whut i would do...but it does kinda suck about the 4k at 65mph, he aint lyin, im hittin like 3500 at 65mph with my gsr, time for another beer

Re: GSR tranny on a b16a1?? (WOPCIVIC)
im at 4500rpm at 80mph w/my b16. thankfully i have a apexi ws instead of a n1. but i love it. i like that i can jus be crusin and if i want to boogie i can jus floor it in 5th no need to downshift, but it does feel like im just wasting gas staying at those high rpm. is a typeR even shorter? or does it have a longer 4th n 5th

Re: GSR tranny on a b16a1?? (b16a1hatch)
I can relate to this, I had a b16a w/ gsr s80 tranny, it sucked, then went b18c1 w/ s80 gsr tranny, its okay. good gas mileage and topend, Now I got an 99 s4c tranny with my b18c1, its a very nice combination

Re: GSR tranny on a b16a1?? (stockegsix)
my b18c1 is mated to an s1. and it's ****.
my b16 is mated to a y1, and third seems long.
my buddy has a gsr hydro with his b16 hatch, and it's fine. takes my grocery getter (b16 type R cam) by 1.5-2 cars. sounds bout right, he's 600 lbs lighter than me.
since you have a DX, it's plenty light to begin with. the gsr tranny will be just fine.
