How much hp before ditching the stock radiator?
I'm finishing up my car, and was wondering if I will be able to get away with my stock radiator for a little bit until I can afford an aluminum one. I will probably be running around 12-14 pounds so about 350whp. I have an oil cooler, so that should help out some. If I am going to need one right away which would you reccommend? thanks.
Upgraded radiators are for road racing, not for a quick sprint on the street or a blast down the strip. Unless your stockie doesn't fit, save your money. You probably won't overheat.

ive gotta stock 5th gen rad, my temp gauges spikes when i run 9psi for a constant 1/2 mile or so. then it goes right back down, i DONT Know why
I've seen plenty of cars running stock single core radiators. I was until I broke the neck on mine on accident. I also saw c.green's 680whp civic in Dsport sporting a stock single core and it's a daily driver.

Count me in. Or not aftermarket, but the half width Del Slo unit. The full or 4/5ths width options for my chassis were too wide, occupied space better taken up by a turbo. A lot of the aftermarket ones I see are as big or not much bigger than the Del Slo dual core... they're just solid metal construction, so you can run a higher pressure radiator cap if you have overheating problems.
I've seen a number of turbo cars sporting single core 5G Civic units... from CRXs to full body Integras. No overheating problems I've seen, Honduh cooling systems are very efficient.

I'd get an aluminum one if you're gonna run high boost, the stock plastic ones are only good to about 20psi and then they break. The aluminum ones will handle alot of boost!
How much boost you run has nothing to do with your cooling system.
Edit: I originally called you a fucktard, but then I realized that the mods are trying to cut down on people flaming. So therefore, instead of calling you a name, Ill politely say I disagree with you, and I cant detect sarcasm.

haha, finally, someone realizes what tony1 is....
and all this time, he actually fooled people into thinking he was smart...
ok edit: i wont be sarcastic either. tony1 knows more than 99% of this board, he knows boost levels has nothing to do with it....

well actually now that you mention it I am planning on taking the car to the road course track by me everynow and then, I love turns too much to totally forget about them
maybe I will just hold off from that until I get a better radiator.
What radiator would you guys reccomend, I have friends running Fluidynes and Koyos. I was debating the C&R w/ slimfan. Last thing I want to do after spending all the money on the motor is having something little mess it up.
Thanks for all of your input

it is definitely woth the money to upgrade to an aluminum radiator in my opinion. I had a few turbo setups and the radiator keeps the car cooler and the fans only run now when im in traffic.
