Default shift **** for a 2001 accord....q?

a guy was asking me about this for his friend.....unfortunately he doesn't know about H-T!! I told him to come check it out, but I figured I would try and help me out!
He is installing a shift **** on his 2001 accord and he can't figure out how to get the silver ring off of the ****. He doesn't want to break anything!

I know smokin rubber has a 90 accord, and he said his is kind of a bitch to get off too......so any help would be appreciated! hopefully this guy's friend will get on over to H-T!!

thanks!

I have a 98 and it should be the same. There is a little clip that you have to hold to get the boot away from the shift ****. I went ahead and pulled the ring off because it wont hook back up to the new shift ****, but if you pinch the clip it should just come off. You have to pull hard though, but it shouldn't break.

The boot is really easy to get off. I have a 99 5spd, and all you have to do it grab the silver ring on the boot, pull down hard and it will slip right off. A friend of mine showed me, and I didn't think it would be as easy to do, but it is. Don't worry you won't break it. I pull it down all the time, and there isn't a problem with my boot or shifter. If your friend is going to get a different shifter, he's going to have to get a new boot. None of the aftermarket shifters have a clip on them that connect to th boot, so your buddy is going to have to replace the boot if he wants a new shifter. To do that, you're going to have to take out the center consel to get at the boot. While your in there you should put in a short shifter adapter.
