Default Motor burning oil due to bad rings.. Do I HAVE to bore it out?

I went down to a shop today due to my car burning oil to see how much it would cost to have them put in some pistons and rings.

I dont know if the guy was trying to make extra money off of me or not because I've never dealt with these guys and never dealt with this problem but he said that I HAVE to bore it out and put a larger piston and ring set in there because the walls of the cylinders would be scarred and the rings wouldnt seat well.

Is this true?

no you shouldn't have to bore it but you'll need new rings so I would hone it while you've opened it all up already and to be sure you get a proper ring set/seal

I didn't think so because I already picked up a set of JDM ITR pistons and rings. I'm not going to go back to that guy for the work.

the hell?
these aint big blocks. Its a honda. If anything, you replace the rings. If you gotta do the pistons, you replace the piston SLEEVE. this is a piece of iron, which prevents you from having to re-bore the cylinders when wear happens/.

How much should labor be just to replace the rings from a regular honda/acura mechanic? I know it will vary but if I can get a ball park figure it would really help out.

Personally, i would not go to a honda dealership to get it done.. Just trying to save you some money ight. I would just replace rings and check your valve seals! Try to ask around at like body shops and stuff. Cheaper hourly for them to do it.

Its VERY hard to say how much labor will cost you. I did my own rings in a full 8 hour day but I worked my *** off. Basically, you need to pull the head, pull the oil pan, drop rod caps, pull piston out through top, install new rings and move on to the next. Once thats done you obv need to reinstall the head.

Honestly it will probably cost you an arma nd a leg for a shop to do this for you...
