so yahoo in a 2003 F150 backed into my lil'o CRX on friday night in a HyVee parking lot. He smashed my passenger side rear quater panel and taillight. I went to a body shop at as soon as they saw it they said it would be totaled (mostly bc of the year 1989)

I have never had a car totaled before and dont want to lose on it.

I have

a rebuilt z6 (new rods, pistons, rings, bearings ect)
OBD-1 wired in with a P28,
coilovers/shocks,
ES full bushing kit
new ball joints
new brakes and calipers
MSD external coil
block gaurd
full stainless steel catback
new 4 wire 02 sensor
and a few things I haven't thought of.

how do i make sure i get what it is worth, or at least get to take the parts i want (mostly the engine)

 

you want to get all the receipts for everything you have on the car, and send copies to the insurance company. they should pay you at least a percentage of the money you have put into the car if they total it. afterwards, you probably want to buy the car back from them to get all your stuff off of it, since they will probably sell it back to you for like $500.

 

even if they dont give u much money for the accident buy it back and get all the parts. then transfer them to a shell or sell em

Depending on your insurance sometimes you can buy your car back. The only bad part about that is they might give your car a salvage title

hum, some bitch pulled out in front of me taking my crx with her. but good news is that i got $1500 for the car (after i dumped about 6k) and i bought the car back for like $34. So dont worry too much, just pull the engine and put it in something else. PART IT OUT! you will make money!

 

yeah i think i will have to buy it back, we'll see what they want for it though. any other thoughts or suggestions woudl be greaet.

well if you have all the reciepts, maybe you could part it out for a decent amount and try to get a certain amount of money back out of each item you had purchased for it.

buying ur car will cost some money. my insurence paid for everything off my car and they let me buy it back.. wats funny is they didnt charge me for buying back. since it was under my mom's name i dunno. but BUY IT BACK! ull be happy you did. post some pic;s maybe you can fix it

the insurace company takes ownership of it because they pay you the value of the car. then you have to pay them to buy it back

 

well they totaled it. here are some before and after pics of the crx. I think i made out good on the deal, I got what i paid for the car and get to keep it. Only cosmetic damage, and some rust.
look me up in the forsale post if you need something. I am selling what i can, and putting the engine in a 92-95 hatch if i can find one.

I highly doubt it, they backed into him. Probably just pushed him over and made the dent.

yeah man buy the car back, take all the stuff put into out, put a running engine in it and make some decent money out of the whole situation..or just put a **** load of bondo in there..fix it right up

 

no frame damage, i am looking for an EG hatch to move the engine into, I am looking to sell/part out the CRx, but then again its cheap transportation now. I also have to mess with title stuff now, and i might try to pull out what i can then glass over it to make it look acceptable,

the insurance company don't do you no favors.

you have the option when getting insurance to insure it for MORE than the value of the car. If you don't choose to, you're fucked, cause they're not gonna help you after its fucked up.
