Default VSS CEL with D16Z6 swap into EF.

I have a D16Z6 swapped into my 90 hatch. Now i used my old CX tranny(im changing soon), which doesnt have a VSS, (i think) and now im throwing a code. That would also mean that VTEC isnt working right? Is there a way to by pass this or something to make the code go away?

transmission should have a small hole in the rear you can plug your speedometer cable into.

If you dont have it in the ecu has no idea of how fast the car is going, how much gas to inject, and especially doenst know RPMS so vtec wont work.

VSS uses a small pulse signal, so unfortionally there is no way to duplicate it.

First ... is your speedo working?

Second, which code is being thrown .... and which ECU are you using?

Sory for lack of info..... yes, my speedo cable is in, my speedo works, and my aftermaket tach is hook up to the cluster wiring harness. Im using a P28. Its throwing code 17, 20, and 9 i think. I checked 20 and 9 and they are fine.

This might apply... might not.

It worked for me and others so maybe you too.

Well, that post that 4dref pointed was very interesting. Check and recheck all your wiring.

I was throwing a code 9 at first as well as a code 43.

Reset the timing and timing belt; checked all wiring from the distributor back to the ecu, and then took off distributor to check it out. Cleaned it all up a bit, put it back together and code 9 disappeared. Good.

Code 43, still showing. Fuel supply system, oxygen sensor. Checked all fuel pressure, replaced requlator, etc. Still code 43. Based on some research here, decided to double check Oxygen sensor wiring. It was an aftermarket sensor and I had to guess at the connections. Figured wasn't getting an O2 sensor code, so all was well. Running out of ideas, so switched the O2 sensor wires around. No more codes and all is runnung great.

All my swap challenges were wiring. I have many hand drawn diagrams and notes tracing wiring from the source right thru to the ECU. It takes time and patience. but that ride yesterday of the coast was a hoot.

Start with one code at a time. I think I would concentrate on the code 20. It sounds like a problem that could create other electrical problems. Check all the connections in that area.
