Would the factory limited slip in our ITRs promote a small amount of wheelhop under acceleration on a tight turn (i.e. pivot cone on an autocross course?). I don't quite remember my '00 experiencing this but my '97 has been doing it lately on course and occationally during daily driving. It's predominantly on the passenger side wheel during a sharp right turn. Does the lact of power inhibit free rotation or something?
What's the lifespan of the LSD system or is it even prone to failure? My car has 41K miles and it was driven lightly until I acquired
it at 24K ten months ago.

To rule out (almost surely) one possibility I highly doubt the LSD is having a problem. There are ITRs with many more miles and many track and high-stress events that have been put into them without a problem.

Then again, every car reacts differently to certain situations, for example, some R's can take constant track abuse and not burn any oil, while other R's on this board go through a quart per session. Anything can break, thats why they sell replacements.
I would check your axle first. I had this problem in my si for almost a year after I installed a ctr lsd in it. But when I installed it I also replaced the axle with a cheap autozone axle which never really worked right. I finally replaced both the axles with brand new oem axles and the problem was finally gone.

The axles are in fact stock. I'll keep "testing" it and see if it worsens.
If for any reason it does fail is it still driveable and what are signs of it not functioning properly, besides more understeer.

Just because the axles are stock doesn't mean they are good. Check the boots and make sure there is any rips or tears. Once they lose the grease the axles goes bad pretty quick.

Older car than your 00...motor mounts will have more wear on them most likely. Check them out, maybe throw a set of inserts in there and see if that solves anything, or some hasports

is this true?
is this true?
I'd bet it's not the LSD, but rather motor mounts. As my ITR aged I got more wheelhop. When I replaced the motor mounts it all went away. I suspect with a 97 the rubber has aged and even with low miles some mounts may have a fair number of cracks or may already be dry rotting.
I'd look there first..
