Default B18a1 hp improvements?? Help

I have a 91 CRX Si that I put a b18a1 in...

Like to mention that it was my first motor swap ever done by myself all within 3 days. I did the swap in the City streets (no garage)...

But now I am hungry. I want more power. Right now I am almost positive my valve guides are bad along with my valve seats. I have an extra cylinder head that I am going to get cleaned up and fitted with new valve guides and seats.

I am wondering since the b18b (140) has 10 extra hp then the b18a1 (130 hp). I am wondering what causes the difference...
* I have read that the cams in the ls are slightly more aggressive??
* Also I am wondering if it will be okay to put b16a2 valves on it so I can rev safely?
* Wondering if it will be okay to put a b16a2 intake manifold instead of the stock b18a1.
* The b16a2 looks like shorter/bigger runners?
Any help would be appreciated.

It is bone stock. My daily driver. I have the stock Si inkate but it is mated to the integra intake arm. (duck tape works wonders). Everything is stock. I don't have to much cash to put a type r intake or rebuild the bottom end. Can't afford P&P right now. no cash for header or exhaust.

lol yeah thanks bro I may be doing that next spring right now I just need to add a little bit more horses while I have the cylinder head off. Next summer I'd definately like to do a homemade turbo on it.
Thanks though. more input please.

Even if u work the head u still cant rev high because the ls block is unstable at high rpms ..
If u want to rev high atleast get arp bolts..and a gsr girdle and if u have the money get the bottom end balanced...

Mill the head or the deck. Heads' gonna be off anyhow, and milling is cheap at even reputable machining shops. Basic bolt/ons will give that motor an extra bit of 'Umph' from my experiences, the b18a/b are both chained down from the factory to deliver very modest power. But they take small mods well, also, power on tap can work wonders. 65 Shot might be the kick in the pants your looking for. - Darrell

If i were you id get the valves and guides done...then get some cams and a Skunk2 IM. I have Exospeed LS909 cams and a S2 IM. And those 2 mods alone made a WORLD of difference in top end. Not to mention that it makes the car sounds like a beast. Good luck

What tends to be the problem of reving it to high? (curious)
And yeah like I said this is my daily driver so I am planning just doing head work right now. next year I'd like to build the/a bottom end.

How much is milling generally? (cost) What would be a good amount to get taken off? Remember this is a daily driver just want a little extra umph. Don't want to destroy my car with pistons tapping the valves .

Yeah I am definately wanting to switch the cams and the IM but can't spend money on that right now.

Put it this way I have about 250 to spend. I have a extra cylinder head. I may have extra cash next week. So right around 400 at most.

Thanks for the replies keep them coming.

How do Ebay headers workout for people? I may just pickup a cheap one. (But I am really thinking about a http://www.homemadeturbo.com )

They have shitty stroke ratios..
Its no big deal since the ls block makes so much power/TQ in low rpms..no need to rev high (over 7200rpms) anyway..

If you're thinkin about turbo then a header would be a waste of money..
If I were u I would just save up some money ...
Get as many miles out of the motor as u can until is starts to go ....then build the **** out of it to your preference,, ..

Shane
the 92-93 b18a1 (140 hp) LS TEG had more aggressive cams than the 90-91 b18a1 (130hp) the b18b however had a better flow in the intake manifold by two hp (142hp)
you can start w/ I/H/E then maybe P&P the head and I/M also get more aggressive cams like crowers 403 or 404 .. then next year you can maybe strengthen your rods get higher cr pistons...

good luck

wow never new that. I have a 90 Integra B18a1, lol. Are the b18b and the b18a1 (92-93 Ls) have the same cams or are they different?

Yeah I see where you are coming from. Right now I feel its near the end of the road. Smokes all over idles crazy sometimes and perfect other times (vacumm lines are good). I would like to build this engine up but the engine build up is for my other CRX (b16a2) .

This is my daily driver just want to see what CHEAP mods I can do to make it a little quicker. Next year I wouldn't mind doing a "junkyard" turbo. But right now I need reliablilty and a little more umph .

thanks for the replies keep them coming. Also what about intake system? What a cheap way to make an intake tubing, would aluminum be preferred? (if you have links let me know)

Anybody know if the b16 valve springs/retainers will be a good upgrade on the cylinder head? Will the b16 valves work in place of the b18a ones? Or are they different sizes?
