intakes&exhaust
do those cheap 20 dollar ebay kits work just as well as any high priced ones. the true only difference i can really see is maybe different kinda of filters just wondering on a second thought. also what is a good sounding exhaust system something cheap and not LOUD i dont want some rattly sounding crap. something with a nice low tone to it. has anyone ever tried using flowmaster 40 series mufflers on there civics. i honestly thing it would be better than those straight through style ones because it still gives you enough back pressure and one sound like a dam bumbo bee
I really doubt that the real AEM/Injen intakes perform noticeably better than their ebay counterparts. I'm sure that the coating on the real intakes does probably keep the air a slight bit cooler, but when our engines move so much air, it doesn't make a significant difference. As for the filters, you'd probably want to replace the ebay one with the k&n.
As for exhausts, I have yet to hear any custom exhaust sound as good as the longer-muffler'ed Hks and Greddy systems. But, those get kinda pricey, so you're probably stuck with custom unless you want to shell out the $$.

i tried to find the dynograph for intake comparisons, no luck
but i remember that AEM did do quite a bit better on the dyno than the rest and way ahead of the cheaper ones.....but they are better than stock and get more air flowing so i would say they aren't a waste of money and maybe better cost-wise than the more expensive brands
and that's my 2.5 cents

im not looking to spend alot of cash. has any one ever heard these cars with a chamber style muffler something not straight thru? if anything ill probably just make the exhaust myself and just bring it to a shop to get it all welded together and it will probably be just as good as greddy and other expensive systems just half the cost
From my experience I think it's best to spend alot of money on an exhaust. Buy something that's proven with a nice quiet tone. Try Greddy, THermal R&D, HKS and so on. A stainless steel catback system is your best bet.
Otherwise you might have something that doesn't flow worth **** or is so loud that it's nothing but a cop magnet.
Cut corners on intakes but not exhausts. If you're not willing to spend much money at all then I would say you should leave your exhaust stock.

Yes, I have tried the flowmaster 40 series and it really does quiet your car down. You really can't hear it until 5.5 to 6k rpms. I had the straight through stuf and it was to damn loud.
