Default launching the crx on slicks need some advice + help at burn out box

K well I'm going to be going to the track hopefully on sunday with the car. So far with the d16a6 i launched it with a 1.9 60 foot on 22 slicks. Now I put a gsr in the car last week its a mild build but I want to hit a low 13 second pass on slicks. I know the car is definately capable of it. But I want to learn to launch the car better. What are some good techniques for launching this car on slicks. Thanks. Also what should I do at burn out box i always just sorta dumped the clutch on the d16a6 which probably wasnt the best idea for burn out box or launch. Should i start in second gear at burn out box? Give a newbie some feedback please. I just started drag racing like 3 months ago.

Setup of car.
1989 crx hf weight 2020 with d16a6 so i dont know weight now
b18c1
64 mm throttle body
skunk2 intake manifold port matched to tb
lads gsr head port and polish
ctr cams
super tech valves, springs, and retainers
gsr tranny with quaife lsd
4-1 header 2.5 collector megan racing (all i could afford but im liking it so far)
p28 ecu with 5500 rpm full throttle launch (is that cool?) vtec engage at 5000 stock gsr fuel maps
ebay 3 inch short ram intake
total seal piston rings (dont know if that effected anything at all)

i just rebuild motor and it runs great and is strong. got about 1000 miles on motor now. I'm hoping for a low 13s pass and the car should do it but help me out with launching guys suggestions or how you guys do it. Next year I'll turbo her hopefully.

Well the burnout is pretty simple. Pull into the water box until the guy tells you to stop, pull the e-brake, rev to like 6-7k rpms and dump the clutch, feather the gas and keep burning out until the car pulls you out of the water box or just let go of the e-brake after you see some nice smoke, keep burning out on the drive pavement as long as possible. That's how I do it anyways.

The launch is pretty simple also. I have only raced at the track one time on slicks and my first run I started out kinda slipping the clutch hard from about 5k rpms, but I bogged down. Bye the end of my 4th run I was dumping the clutch from about 6.5k rpms and still bogging down a little. This next time I am at the track I plan on dumping the clutch from my rev limiter (7300 rpms). I would just keep practicing until you find the sweet spot on your car to launch from.

When staging I try to keep the rpms up a bit, when both cars have staged keep your eyes on the first yellow light and when you see that light flash push the gas to the floor (if your going to be launching from the rev limit), then when you see the third yelow light flash, dump the clutch. You can actually wait at the line as long as you want because the reaction time doesn't affect your ET at all, so you might want to just focus on your rpms and launching instead of hitting a perfect light.

well i have been hitting pretty good reaction times I'm just conserned with getting the slicks to grab better and the actual launch. No one ever lines me up at delmar But anyways. I guess I should just roll the wheels through the water box and then roll back a bit to heat them up?

I'm usually dumping the clutch with my old setup at the last yellow light. Hmm that seems hight to be dumping clutch on slicks but then again i haevnt launched a b series on slick yet. You were bogging at 6500 rpm? I'll look for that sweet spot this weekend see what i find. Thanks for you reply.

What tire pressure are you running in your slicks? I had my tire pressure at 10psi and a few people told me if I let it out to 7psi or so, that would help my 60 foot times. I was pulling 1.9 60 foots with my slicks at 10psi.

I have read a lot on here you don't want to burn out in the water box because it will just kick water up into your fender wells and then drip on your tires when your at the line. At the tracks I have been to there is always somebody that works there telling you to line up and I have noticed it's usually right at the edge of the water box.

Launch high cause your probably gonna bogg out at 5 or 6. personally i launch at 7500 on 22x8x13 m&h slicks. Run low pressure also, 7 psi should be good. Doing this, i have pulled low 1.7 60 foots. As far as getting a good light, on a bracket tree, launch as soon as you see the 3rd yellow about to come on, or when the 2nd yellow just ends, thats on a .00 perfect.
When your doing a burner, just dip into the water and get out with the middle of your car over the water and start to light it up. I herd that 2nd gear burners are better but im gonna have to try one to see. Take your RPMs high and just dump it, turn your steering wheel side to side so your wheels dont lock up. I have a quiafe LSD and that still dont mean both wheels WILL spin. good luck...

yup lots of people do 2nd gear burnouts. do you have upgraded axles or are they stock, i bet there stock. if they are youll probably end up break an axle on the first run

I have stock d-series axles and they held up fine at the track with slicks. I have also watched a few friends at the track dropping the clutch from like 8500 rpms on 24 and 25 inch slicks with stock b-series axles and they haven't snapped one. I have broke 2 axles, but that was because my wheel was at full lock and I was dropping the clutch from 7k rpms and doing burnouts and what not, never race related.

so, ive seen guys break stock axles on drag radials, ive seen guys break stock axles on stock tires, ive seen guys break 300hp axles on the first run, they were not over 300whp. ive seen guys with b16s break stock axles on 24"slicks. not saying that it will happen, i didnt say it will definetly happen, i just said probably.

The way you said it, it sounded like you were trying to say stock axles were garbage and they will probably break ever time you go to the track. I agreee it would be a good idea to upgrade axles, but it's not absolutely necessary to go spend a bunch of money on gator or dss axles. Good motor mounts that help prevent too much wheel hop will help a lot. His stock axles will be fine and if they do break who cares because you can get them replaced for free under warranty from autozone, napa, schucks, etc...

yeah i got hasport mounts and they are stiff and full race traction bars. The bars dropped me down from 2.0 with d16a6 to a 1.9 60 foot time. They are awesome. Thanks guys for all the helpful advice im going to try this out sunday and see what time a pull i hope 13s are on the way.
