Default Help on racing w/slicks please

I'm not a big 1/4 mi person, but I'm bringing the civic to the track tonight. I've drag raced once, on street tires, but tonight I'm borrowing a set of slicks and I don't really have a good idea what I'm doing.

The slicks are 20X8X14 MT et drags mounted on a set of steelies - not the greatest I understand, but the price was right

1) What psi should I run in the slicks? I've heard anywhere from 20 to as low as 12psi - where should I start?

2) burnout - just drop the clutch and let them burn for 5-10secs??

3) launch - The guy who owns the slicks has a supercharged GSR and said if he drops the clutch above 5k or so they spin. I've got a t04e on a b18b motor, I'm not sure if the turbo will be spooled fast enough to spin these or should i just bring the revs up to the limiter and drop it?

any advice from experience welcom - thanks in advance

those slicks are kinda small for your hp output but it iwll work. Set pressure to 15psi What i would do is whn you coming to the staging line there is burnout box this is where the water is roll through that and then go a couple feet ahead of the water. Hold ebrake rev to around 5000 and the slicks should start to get heated up as soon as you feel them hook release the ebrake.

launch where you feel comfortable wihtout spinning all over the place. You want a point where you come out hole and dont haveto feather the throttle that is what we call bogging in that you lost boost and now you have torebuild the bost to get back going.

Any other infor just let me know you can call me if you need any further details.

I have raced with different sizes of slicks and the 14’s will run good on 12-14lbs of air with a boosted setup.
AS you go to the burnout box, hold the ebrake hard once you have set yourself up at the box.
To heat them up, dump the clutch when at the burnout box on 2nd gear. Rev it to 6K and just dump the clutch and gas and release and gas and release(5500-7000rpm) You should see the tires smoking at this point.
If it works out well, the car should pull you out of the burnout box but if it doesn’t release the ebrake.

The Main concern with Launching on the 14’s with turbo is bogging a the line. Once you have staged up, Hold the rpms at no lower than 4500rpms but no higher than 6K Launching on 14 inch slicks is tricky with a turbo because you can easily spin the tires or if the RPm’s aren’t high enough, the car will fall flat in its face and loose momentum and your boost will drop.
So its all in practice. Launch between 4500-6K rpm. Try not to release the gas too much if it seems like its spinning but release just enough to get out of the spin.
Good luck.

Dont ever bring the rebvs up to the limiter and just drop it. You will either shatter the diff or break an axle. What you can do is, after the burn out, do a small buny hop to see if the slicks are hooking at 5 grand. Besides that, I think you would rather bog on your first run on slicks, instead of breaking drivetrain.

you dont want to dump the clutch slip it but dont freaking dump it very bad... you rbreak something if not carfuel in what you are doing. I would ease it out too much shock the to the drivetrain when you dump it.

True.. I guess since your not all out racing, be conservative with your launches.
But once you feel a 1.8 60 ft, you wont want to come back to doing 2.0+ 60 fts.

I was So happy doing 1.7- 1.8s on my allmotor daily driven crx single cam. That All I strived for was to get the best launch. Now that I found out how to launch good, its hard to be conservative.
Best launch 1.72 60ft. All motor D16a6 on M&H 13x8 on bogarts

Hey...by the way, dont do any dry hops after you do your burnout. What that will do is get rid of all that nice hot soft rubber you just got on there from the burnout. Id go down to about 8 pounds of boost....12 second ets???
