ITR Transmission
I just recently purchased a used 97 ITR, it seems to be all original with the exception of the 5 speed transmission. How can I tell if this is the original or even the correct transmission for the car. It does have the LSD but no number plate.

sorry about the misunderstanding .... what I am trying to find out is do I have the original 5 speed transmission or a replacement. I thinks the original owner may have replaced the transmission with one out of a GSR ?
Thanks for any help

pics would help.. incase you dont know how to do it then,
check the casing on the trannydoes it match in color with the casing of the block ... if so chances are its the right one.
if the colors are different then it was replaced.
and 99% of the ITR trannys have a big fat LSD stamp on them in ink or some ****.. should have that too.
<---- mike who knows his tranny is the correct one

Chances are, the LSD stamp is worn off...especially on a car that old..it's only in ink.
A better way to tell would be a cruising RPM at 80 MPH.

Well the final drive or 5th gear could have been replaced so that might not be helpful...

I guess this is going to be hard. I had the transmission pulled to have it repaired. The mechanic replaced the 5th gear and the 5th-Rev Syncro , cleaned the case and painted it a nice shinny silver. The stamped plate is missing and no one can remember if it was there when we got the car. The only info on the transmission is a bar code type sticker with the number S80-3135216.
