Ground Control coil broke
I was trying to raise my car up today. I lifted the passanger side up and found out the coil is messed up. Its jumped a coil or line and its slanted now so the part that turns is stuck onto the coil. My dad and I banged it out as much as possible but we only managed to damage the coil more. Anyone know where i can get a replacement. I gotta raise the car up for winter soon.
did you try calling ground control? i got coilovers direct from them and they said theres a lifetime warranty.....dunno if you beating on it would void that out though, but its worth a try!

Are you talking about the sleeves? GC sells any and all replacement parts for the coilovers, even the little bolts in the collars! Very good customer service by a couple of the guys there!

I emailed them. Ill trying taking pics as soon as i get some time. I also need to post new pics of my CF hood i got recently. Yeah the sleeve. The part that turns is jammed on the sleeve...so it wont move...when i try turning it turns the whole sleeve.

so do you mean that the spring perch has effectively "cross-threaded" itself?
I had trouble turning my perches the other day, because of dirt on the threads, but I just loosened the bolt a little more and was able to turn it. Perhaps you loosened it too much such that the perch was able to expand out too far and the perch threads became disengaged from the sleeve threads? Sounds like you should be able to fix it by lifting the car (no tension in springs), loosen the perch as much as possible (remove the allen bolt if necessary) and work it back into the right orientation.

yeah that it. My friend told me to tighten the allen bolts because they might seaze over time...so i left them loose...guess i shouldn't leave them like that. hmm i didn't think of that. Only thing is i damaged the sleeve a bit at the bottom. Might neeed new ones.

yep definitely a bad call there. You should never drive w/ those bolts loose.
But you shouldn't tighten them super-tight either. I tighten mine just enough so that the perch cannot be turned by hand. If you're worried about the bolt itself seizing, just use some anti-sieze on the threads from now on. As for the sleeve/perch threads themselves, if it's hard to turn because of dirt on it, just loosen the bolt a little more and it should turn freely, and push the dirt out of the threads at the same time.

ok well i loosend the bolt all the hit it a million times...still didn't work. So i thought if im not strong enough to move the gold piece ill let my car do it. I banged it up really bad though, but after dropping the car back down it aligned itself again. Now the car is way HIGH off the ground in the front again. No problems scraping now. Good to go for the winter. Thanks patrick.
