Bar Inspection
How soon should I schedule my car for a bar inspection. My tags are due aug 05 so I am gonna need a smog before I can get new tags for that year. I was thinking about scheduling for something in june. Is that to early or too late? Thanks in advance
if you car is already to go and is setup you can go at the time your tags are up and they send you the letter renewing your registration and asking to do the smog. if not you can go ahead of time.
I'd recommend that you go as soon as possible. That way, if there are "issues" that have to be addressed, you have time to do them.

But would i have to re-smog before august if I get bar'd before then?

I don't honestly know the correct answer but the worst case would be that the "every other" year smog check rule would apply. That means that you could be required to have another check in just a couple months after getting the Referee check.
That's kind of stinky, but after getting the car through the Referee (and he gives you your sticker) all you have to do is go to a normal smog check station.
If the time period is close, the DMV will honor the smog check that the Referee does as part of the certification process. I don't know how long it's good for, but you could ask at AAA or DMV.

I think but not fully sure but if you ref before your tags are due I think your registration dates in the future change to the date you got the motor tested. I don't think you will need to go and smog again later. you should contact the ref and ask them this question.
