brake light is still on. please help
I recently bought a gsr after my si was jacked. Anyways the guy I bought it off was up front and told me the rotors were bad, and it was obvious and he said thats why the brake light was on. I changed the rotors and pads and it is still on. When I pull up on the ebrake the brake light gets brighter. When i put it back down the brake light goes back to its not so bright state. Also the ABS light comes on frequently. If you have any suggestions and solutions please respond. If you are someone who likes to talk crap and just be an ***, leave.
make sure there's enough brake fluid in both the Master Cylinder reservoir, and the ABS reservoir (if they're seperate, as they are on my DA). Hopefully that cures your problem!

Hey Jon, I've checked them and they both look good. Also, I've been reading and people said check to see if the floating sensor is floating in the brake fluid resevoir and that looked good. I'm stumped
I Dont know what to do about the break light, mabe pull the ecu fuse or disconnect the battery. About the ABS light- i have an idea. ON the break there is an abs sensor that reads the the axle wile spinning, the abs axle has groves all the way around, mabe the sensor is dirty and cant read. Also check the abs wires, that go to the abs unit, un plug it and check to see if its dirty, or it may not be connected all the way.

Since you've already checked that the float actually floats, I guess you need to buy a new cap/float. There's a little magnetic reed-switch in the center post. That can go bad. Ask the dealer about a service bulletin #03-029. New float 46666-S84-999 & new reservoir filter 46666-S04-J02.
If you unplug the float switch but the light still stays on, you're gonna have fun with a multi-meter looking for a short-to-ground somewhere in that circuit.

I'm crossing my fingers that it is a flaky float switch. Thank you for the info, I'll check it out tonight. Man I hope i don't need to use the multimeter because that'll be a pain in the ***

ok do this...depress your brake use your hand and press it down...then have someone look from the back...the light should be still on....on? good....then use ur hand again pull all the way back...have someone look from the back if the light still on. on? good....
two things can occur....#1 the most worse is brake sensor is **** up
#2...there is a brake light sensor buttom that when your brake got pull back up (your brake has a bolt screw) and your screw DIDN'T hit the brake light sensor all the way in so the light still on....
solution to #2 ..get a manual helms...put ur head down next to the pedal...then follow the brake pedal up,,,you will see there is a bolt that you can adjust the brake and an insertion bolt and a cotter pin (thin like paper clips)...pull the cotter pin and the insertion bolt out ...use the 12mm and losen the 12mm bolt refer to the manual..man i can't remember...
well adjust the brake heigh till it hit and brake light sensor buttom

This depends on how old your car is...but Ill give my two cents to help because I recently had the same problem (2001 GSR).
It could be a faulty distributor cap as well. Bought my car used back in November, still under warranty and took it to Acura. They replaced the distributor cap and that fixed the problem. All under warranty as well, so I didnt have to spend a dime. Hope this helps....

Thank you everyone for your help. I basically went down the line and tried everything people said and I found the problem. I unplugged the 2 wires next to the brake fluid resevour and the brake light and abs havent came on so it was a faulty sensor.
I'm going to go purchase the filter and sensor this weekend. Hopefully it won't cost to much.
Once again thank you guys very very much.

If you take off the lid, make sure the float is in the 'up' position, like it's floating, then check the light. Is is still on? If so, you might have to buy the cap instead.
I'm guessing the new float & screen/filter/basket(?) are just made so they don't touch each other. That way the float can actually float. But if the little magnetic reed switch sticking down from your cap is bad, that might not get replaced. Find out what's actually bad in your car vs. what you're buying.
At least post back to say what you really get when you buy the new float & filter. Lots of people seem to have this trouble so they'll be reading this thread.

I will look at it this weekend. When you buy the cap, the magnetic read is attached right? Then the float is seperate, so if need be you can buy a cap and put the old 'float' on the new cap? I just want to make sure I'm understanding this.
Mine hasn't screwed up (yet). So I'm sorta guessing about what you get when you buy that stuff. When you find out, let us know.
OTOH, I think there's some dealer employees around here; maybe they can tell us...

My Integra is doing something like this also, but it only happends when the car is cold. After it's warmed up, the brake light goes off. Weird...

You may have a different problem. The light is either on or off.
I have no idea what could make the brake light (on the dash) change brightness.

When you lift the handbrake lever, you close another parallel circuit, drawing a little more current through the bulb.
I went to the Acura dealership and picked up the master cylinder resevour cap, popped that on and MAGIC! All problems fixed. Thank you everyone for your help.

i have that exact same problem too... it only happens though in cold weather. in the hot summer, it's fine. you can't really notice the change in brightness unless you actually look at it up close.
this weekend i will check the brake fluid levels. my brake pads have just been replaced at all 4 corners. the ebrake sensor is not sticky...
