did a 5speed swap on std hatch. now car wont crank. what could be wrong?
Its the park safety switch that was in place when it was auto. Look under the center console where the bunch of plugs were. You need to jumper two of the plugs. One, if unjumped won't let you pull the key out when you shut the car off, and one won't let it start at all. I don't have my Helm's by me at the moment or I would tell you what wire specifically. If you really can't figure it out though, I can get it for you. You should be able to figure it out though because that is your problem.
Does it even try to crank...or click atleast? Or does it not do anything? If i were you id double check all the grounds. Id also check the starter hot wire and signal wire.
no crank, no click, no grind, nothing. some lights on the gauge cluster just get a lil weak from trying to start i guess. yeah ill check the grounds and the starter things tomorrow, i hope thats the prob. the starter is brand new.
make sure the signal wire to the starter is hooked up. and test to see when u turn the key the signal is reaching the starter.

Ground wire from tranny to frame....i bet 4thgen is right...
If you have to ask where it is...you are probably missing it
It goes from a bracket near where the clutch cable connects to the clutch lever....to a bolt on the frame located under the battery tray.
I have a long, long story about this very problem....took me months to diagnose. Yet it was SUCH AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM!!

Same comment i was thinkin of!! And same situation here. It took me a few weeks though. But with mine, my ground wire actually just went bad and so did the point on the battery tray where it connected. Previous owner have replaced the original wire with some inferior **** and he also moved the ground point from the frame to the batt. tray...so my problem was disguised in a way. So just because the ground is there, doesnt mean its good. Check with an ohm meter.
