Wont start, cant figure out why!
Hey guys!
95 Hatch with the 1.5l.
I was driving it all day today, everything was fine. I parked it for about 5 minutes and all of the sudden it wont start. I turn the key to the on position and I get all electricity working, but it doesnt turn over at all. I jumped just to check and it didnt help at all. I checked the resistance at the starter, the smaller wire with the little black "cap" is getting resistance, the larger one is not reading anything. The larger one runs directly in to my positive battery terminal. Is that the correct way?
I want to work on it and get it fixed tomorrow, please help if you can!

Re: Wont start, cant figure out why!
Ok the small wire is the one that get 12V+ when you turn the key all the way to start.
so first off is the car Auto or Manual?
next is the engine turning freely by hand?
if car is auto try starting the car in both Park and Neutral if it starts in ether but not both you Neutral switch is most likely bad. if it wont start in ether try jumping 12V+ to the small wire at the starter if it still wont crank your starter is bad
If it's a manual press the clutch all the way to the floor then try again if it doesn't start jump the small wire at the starter to 12V+ if it starts then ether the clutch switch or relay is failed and needs replacement.

I havent checked if it is turning freely by hand, but I have no reason to believe it isnt. Oil level is fine ad it was running literally 5 minutes before. The small wire is getting 12V, I already checked with a multimeter. I am not getting any resistance from the ground on the other side though. Sounds like my starter might have just failed. Do they usually go from working perfectly to failing out of no where like that? Is there a fuse somewhere that I need to check? I couldnt find one on any fuse diagrams.

Awesome! That should be an easy fix. Ill check that next. Ill probably just bypass the switch if that is the case. All I would need to do is connect the two wires that go in to that switch together right?

You could just hot glue a coin over the hole.
