Still Trying to Figure Out New ITR--Mystery Lever
Forgive the stupid question, but I'm still a newbie. The lever underneath the lip of the rear hatch, what the hell is it supposed to do? Mine doesn't do anything from what I can tell. I don't really see how it could be for opening the hatch becasue the release mechanisim is on the rear panel. The only thing on the hatch is the striker. Also, my hatch open warning indicator light stays on all the time. Does this have anything to do with the fact that my lever is apparently broken.
This one tricked me when I first got my R. I had a 96 GS-R before it and it had a trunk release. It took a few minutes to figure it all out but make sure your car is completely unlocked and then try the lever again
What is needed for a 98+ rear hatch on a 97, other then
the rear hatch itself. Any special wiring that im going to
have to do? Has anyone done this, or am I the only one
who wants to.....

I was fooled by it as well when I first got my R. Here's the trick, open your trunk, and push the lever all the way to the right, then close your trunk again, make sure you slam it shut. There is no trunk release lever inside the car.

huh? has nothing to do with being an R. all 98 up integras do not have a hatch release lever in the car next to the gas cap lever. they all have a lever on the hatch that slides left and right, as well as a key hole on the hatch.

The hatch release lever was moved from the floor next to the driver, to underneath the lip of the hatch, on all U.S. market (USM) Integras starting in 1998. I think this had to do with a federal regulation (for all cars, not just Integras), so that a child locked in the trunk/hatch had access to a release lever. Perhaps they retained the release on the floor next to the driver in other markets. (I find that, which is on my '94 GS-R, more convenient than the release lever on the hatch itself on my '01 ITR.)
You know it's more convenient inside the caR, but i am sure at least one of you had ridden in a teg where the hatch sticks. I know my buddies gsr you almost need 2 people just to open the hatch...1 to pull the lever inside and 1 to manually open the hatch. So the way the 98+ tegs are you dont run into that problem of the hatch sticking anymore...and even ifyou should, you are at the back to take the weight off the latch which causes it to stick
