Honing a B18C Block...some questions?
the cylinders are in perfect condition and we will be checking each one with a bore gauge. Someone told me that if there are no scratches that you can see or feel with your fingernail, then I wouldn't even have to hone it. Is this true, I just don't understand how the rings will seat if you don't hone it. If I do hone it, what kind of hone would you recommend and where would I be able to get it?.I was thinking a Snap-On 3 stone hone with 400 grit stones, and about 10 quick passes. Comments are welcome please, and I know a lot of you are going to tell me to bore it but I won't be pulling the block or tranny out of the car, so please give me some good advice. Thank you again H-T
you definately should hone your block. It is not recommended that you do it yourself. Find a reputable machine shop and have them do it. When you run your fingers down the bore you wont feel anything, but when your fingers go up you should feel the scratches catching your skin
