Keep or sell the ITR?
Inactive 2001 ITR owner lurker/poster 0071 here.
When the evo 9 is available, I will be one of the first in line to purchase one. I love the new look and I keep dreaming about a turbo vehicle. Although I wanted a bmw/lexus as my next vehicle, Im still relatively young and the luxury car can wait till im a bit older with kids.
Should I sell my type R? Or turn it into a garage queen and purchase the evo 9? I can afford both vehicles, but I know I wont be driving the ITR much once I get my hands on the evo 9.
I would hate for a vehicle with the magnitude of the ITR become a garage queen. I rather someone else enjoy her rather then rotting in a garage. Im torn because I thought I would never sell the ITR and I lost alot of money to purchase this vehicle new.
I know some of you guys will say the decision is up to me, blah blah blah. If you were in my situation, what would you do? I did have thoughts about turbo'ing the ITR, but with that 4-5k I would spend. I rather use that as a down payment/mods on the evo 9

SwiftR: yeah, if you don't feel the same way about your R anymore, sell it and let someone else enjoy it.
I mean you said it... you can afford both, so why not have both instead of selling a piece of compact car history?

I have an Evo8 RS and an ITR. At first I thought that I might not like driving the ITR after the Evo. But the fact is that both cars are special. I still get a thrill with the ITR but it does not seem as fast as it once did. I believe the ITR is a better autocross car in stock form than the Evo (ITR is more likely to win DS than the Evo is in AS).
After driving both I have no desire to get rid of either.

exactly my thoughts. you can afford both so keep them. you never know when something can happen to the evo but you still got the R in backup .. just in case

Man it seems like their is really going to be a demand for the EVO 9....i must know at least a dozen people that swear up and down that "they will have one". They are even preparing for the **** now by selling all their toys.....just like you i guess! I myself have never had the opportunity to drive one, but don't think my enthusiasm for the R will be going anywhere anytime soon

My car is in the garage all of the time unless there is an autocross. So i guess you could say mine is a garage queen. theres nothing wrong with that as long as you get it out occasionally and drive it. keep it safe and one day it will be worth alot of money.
I think you should keep them both. Even though I've never driven an evo at all, I think you'll still have a desire to drive your ITR. It really is a different experience. Evo will be faster of course, like the guy above said, but if you can comfortably afford both of them, that would definitely be my choice.

I think so too :Sigh:

I have had this same delema for about four months now with the evo mr. The single most important thing I can say is build quality! I would lease an evo in a second, but am to worried about the build quality to buy one out right. if you can afford both cars I don't think the R will mind if you drive it once or twice a month. I think if the money is there every R owner should have a second car. lastly take a corner hard and you will know what to do :-)
keep it ... there is no car that will communicate with you the way the ITR does.
once you sell the car you will hate your self... i did and i had to buy another .... trust me a word from the wise. :hint hint:

If you want the evo 9 get it, but keep the itr for a bit longer.
1) just get weekend insurance on the itr.
2) if you didn't like the evo at least u have your itr.
3) selling your itr then buying another itr will never be the same.
4) if you like the evo then get the most money for your itr.
Good Luck
