Default Stock Pistons, Stock Rods, Which give out first?

When you are running to much boost on a completely stock motor. What normally gives out first. THe pistons or the rods?

The ringlands on the piston give out first. They are not thick enough, and they are cast. Im not sure how much has to do that they are cast, but im sure that forged is stronger.

depends... something is going to give that's for sure.
If the tune is on the edge most likely crack the ring lands
however if you got a good tune and everything is in order i have seen many bent rods too.
Remember there's so many other things that could happen depends on many factors.
You could melt a valve before hurting either the rod or piston.

It depends on what engine you're talking about too. On the D15 the puny rods tend to give out even earlier than the ringlands, but not always.

the stock b18b rods are capable of handling over 300whp with no problems.. however they are no good if you plan on revving the motor like 8000+ rpms.

Ring lands, then pistons.

my ringlands blew first too.

actually they were all severly cracked, which lead to oil consumption, and i spun a rod bearing a few weeks later during a long trip.

the ringlands normaly only crack if you are on the verge of detonation. if you are timmed for the fuel and boost that you run... the stock pistions will be fine.

if you are tuned corectly there... you will drop a valve, or bend a rod from an over rev (missed shift) first.

I run 11 psi everyday on a stock block B16 without any problems (comming close to two yaers) But it has a real, safe, daily driver tune. If I wanted to squeeze an extra 30 hp out of it... The motor would have popped a long time ago.

have fun... and good luck

Well, if the ringland cracks, that's part of the piston, so wouldn't you consider that the piston breaking?

There's exceptions to that too. Mainly luck. I ran with a conservative tune, by a very reputable tuner. One year later, ring lands = bye bye.
