Seems like the new trend here in NYC. The whole quality of life thing started by our previous mayor.

I've been pulled over for an aftermarket exhaust when I had my Integra. They let me go without a ticket since it was downright silent. I think it has to do more with noise than it being an aftermarket exhaust. *shrug*

I am not sure if there are any points on license if you get a ticket. Just got an universal silencer, not taking any chances.

It's probably just a fix it/revenue generator ticket. I doubt something like that will equate to points on your license.

ARTICLE 9
EQUIPMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND MOTORCYCLES

31. Mufflers and exhaust systems. Prevention of noise. Every motor
vehicle, operated or driven upon the highways of the state, shall at all
times be equipped with an adequate muffler and exhaust system in
constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or
unusual noise and no such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped
with a cut-out, bypass, or similar device. No person shall modify the
muffler or exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will
amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor or exhaust system of
such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler or exhaust system
originally installed on the vehicle and such original muffler
and
exhaust system shall comply with all the requirements of this section.
A muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle
plates, or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust
gas from an internal combustion engine, and effective in reducing noise.
An exhaust system is a series of mechanical devices for the purpose of
receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and expelling
it into the atmosphere.

Unfortunately these laws are outdated and do not have dB ratings. 50 state legal exhausts don't mean jack squat if the state legistrative doesn't have a dB rating written in black & white.

Good find!

But to the guy who got the ticket, I'm sorry he must have been doing something completely stupid, I see cars all the time with fart cans- and not quiet ones either But the cops here could not care how loud as long as your driving somewhat normal.

It's 95 decibels which is ungodly loud and you should serve prison time for to cure the owner of that stupidity IMO

Would telling the cop "loud exhaust? I swear its the muffler bearings officer. mine went bad today and I have to go get it fixed"

be a brain dead idea?

to the thread starter...your buddy had to be doing something retarded.

fart cans all over from riced out civics, accords, integras, cavaliers.... they all sound like they are farting around town...
