b16b?
I got a 95 ex coupe and im gonna do a b16b swap this summer and i was gonna turbo it all at the same time. my only problem is the high *** compression of the civic type r motor. i mean i could buy low compression pistions but its still gonna be hell on my motor. does anyone know anyway around it?
imo i wouldnt buy a ctr motor its over priced not so much for performance but for its rareness. i would say get a gsr or ls and go turbo it would save alot of money just my .02
I see no sense in buying a high compression motor just to lower the CR for boost. Why not leave a higher CR, have the bish tuned & deal w/ running high octane? You'll have the same, if not more power, and I don't imagine that this is a race car since you are having to ask this, so unless you are M4D TyT3 yO! you won't be running tons of boost.
The B16B has the best rod ratio of any B-Series engine, so in theory it'd be a great turbo engine.
BUT!!!
IMO you're wasting a great engine and too much money on the best road racing stock B series only to turbo it. You'd get more power and more torque out of a B18C GS-R/SiR-G engine for less money.

I say go for it. If you've got money and want to spend it on this, be my guest.
I like the higher compression ratio + less boost. You get better off boost performance and the same top end numbers on less boost.
With that said, you may actually be better off with a B18C1 in this case. If you plan to run a bunch of boost, you would most likely be more happy with the 1.8L bottom end of the B18C1.

Yea...don't waste the B16B on a turbo project. If you want to be different, just make a nice custom turbo kit for yourself with a turbo of your liking and use rare parts or something...no need for a B16B in that equation.

B16B was overpriced. They've come down over time.

if you wanna be unique... and you have money... why go B series??? yes, b series ****** 0wns... but why not do something radical with an EW or something? IMO, that would be ****** PIMPTACULAR.
just buy a normal b16 and lower the CR and get better rods. That could handle like 350 to the wheels and the cost of the swap+rods+pistons will run you near the same amount of the b18c1 swap... so.. Stock gsr turbo or semi built b16 turbo... I choose b16.. plus they are pretty abundant and alot cheaper incase you happen to kill one.
