Click but wont turn over...
I have a 88 CRX dx, 5 speed.
A few weeks ago, my car started to have problems turning over, when I turned the ignition. it seemed like the starter was getting weaker everytime i would start the car. This went on for 3 days till I would turn the ignition and it wouldn't even turn over. I tried jumping the battery, but that didnt work. So i decided it was the starter. I went to kragen and bought a new starter (money I was saving for my ZC swap) put it in, and it turned over great no probs....untill now, about 2 weeks later, Exact same problem. Started getting weaker every start, and now its not starting.
So I tried jumping it again and this time it got it to start. but this just once. I cleaned the connection..still no response. about half the time I would get a click and sometimes not. But over all its still not starting and im resorting to poping the clutch =/.
Could it be my alternator not charging the battery enough? could it be my ignition? I dont know why replacing the starter would make it run strong, and still not be the problem.
Any help would be great
Thanks

oh he replaced it already ? well it could be the alt there. it happened tome once and i thought it was my starter because it would click so much so i figure to get it tested and it was good so it was my alt the whole time.

yeah it will only click about once or so then nothing.
why is that when I repaced the starter, it worked good and strong for 2 weeks and now its doing this again? I guess I shoulda had my starter tested before I replaced it: ( I want my ZC!)

Even if you just changed your starter it doesn't rule the starter out. Sometimes new parts are not always new parts. Just fix your battery problem first and then work on the Starter.
But from what your explaining to us, it sounds more like a battery problem. Bring your battery to a local AutoParts store and have them check it. It's free, to me it sounds like your battery is not holding the charge.
Anyways if your battery turns out to be good then you can check the Alt. turn the car on and remove the negative from the battery. If your car stops then it's your Alt. if it runs then it's your bat.(This is the quick test, to confirm 100% you should take your Alt. to the autoparts store to get it checked before you waste any more money)

ok I had this **** on my crx before, first thing fix ur battery. If the battery didnt do the work change the starter signal fuse (fuse all by itself to the left of the under dash fuse box). If the fuse didnt do the trick then ur starter is bad but mainly the fuse went bad if the car had no problems before.

well, I took the battery in to get it testing, and of course it tested fine, just really low. So I had them charge it and in the mean time I went to work pulling the alernator. The bottom bolt was stuck really well, and it took me 2 hours to get the right leverage to break it. mainly becuase I didnt have a lot of room for the wratchet to move and it was hard to use all my strength laying under the car. So brought the alternator in and it tested bad. So I had to buy a new one, $119( more gone for my ZC ive been saving for months but cant seem to save enough with bills and stuff like this) Also i did check that fuse under the hood, and it was fine looked new actually. Thanks for the help guys, i wish i woulda known i coulda tested my starter for free before i replaced my old one.
I just have one more question:
when I eventually get the dohc ZC, will the starter and alternator fit? like to at least feel like some of my money went there

I had a problem like this before and solved it!
!!differnt car differnt motor but same clicking problem!!
My 1989 B16A in a 92 hatch back (NOT CRX) wouldn't start or even turn over once. Ill insert the key and the lights would turn on and it will beep like normal, and then i would turn the key to start the car and all i would get at the time was a CLICK and thats all, any more turning of the key wouldnt do anything even if i took the key out and tried to start it again it wouldnt click or anything.
First thing i thought it was was my starter not the distributor because with out having the motor even turning over theres no need to bring the distributor to a thought. I bought a used GSR starter just in case if my stock one didnt work but still just a CLICK. I checked my grounds and i found my grounding wire from the transmision to the frame was too loose and it would spark against where its loose at, during that first CLICK, so i tighten that up but still no turning over. I checked my wires and found that my Idle Air Control Valve connecting switch was switched around with Intake Heat Sensor on the intake manifold dont ask how that happend lol After switching them around i started it right up.
One thing for your car you should check for or should i say Listen for is when you turn your key to the Ignition ... listen for a hissing sound from the fuel system under your hood because before when my car would just click i never heard that hissing noise untill i tightend my ground(s) and switched those connectors arounds.
