Called the guy and he said it has a salvaged title because it has been stolen. How much is the car really worth? I tried kbb.com but they said there wasn't sufficent information to rate the car.

[shakes head]

Ask why/how it was salvaged and what if any was replaced for retitle and resale.

Ask for alot better, clearer and more pics of the car IE the whole car, interior general, drivers side view, dash, engine bay, ALL VIN's matching, underside, engine bay, etc... Before you talk any price.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice guys, after 4 accidents in 9 months in my Si (none were my fault), I think it's time to move on.

Here's the other R I've called on, the dealer hasn't called back yet though:

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp....t=173

I'll pursue the salavaged R if that dealer car turns into a dead end.

EDIT: xtcat9k, if you were only closer...

Chrome wheels?

"Power Steering; Power Brakes; Power Door Locks; Power Windows; Radial Tires; Gauge Cluster; Clock; Trip Odometer; Tachometer; Air Conditioning; Tilt Steering Wheel; Cruise Control; Interval Wipers; Rear Defroster; Remote Fuel Door; Front Bucket Seats; Reclining Seats; Fold Down rear Seat; Dual Power Mirrors; AM-FM Stereo Radio; Center Console; Premium Wheels; Dual Air Bags; Spolier; Body Colores Bumper; Chrome Wheels;"

It would be nice if they actually knew what was on the car.

Looks like a Gen2 Mugen or fake Mugen strut tower bar.

I wouldn't buy a salvaged R...or any car for that matter. Just think of what it went through. You want to buy a car that was taken care of...when the theifs had that car you can bet your *** they cut every possible corner trying to strip it as fast as possible. Wires cut, bolts thrown all over the place. Think what it takes to get it back to stock. There's bound to be something wrong with it...not to mention for cheaper you can get one with a clean title . Keep searching, and do yourself a favor and DO NOT limit yourself to "local" cars. Airfare is cheap...look for a deal, fly out and see it, drive it home if you like it. Good luck on your search

if you were to buy it, you need to read about what it actually means to own a salvage title vehicle IN YOUR STATE. ask you local dmv and dol about it.

What and buy one with no salvage title unless you are planning on keeping it or selling it for peanuts...

I would spend the extra two grand and buy the itr from the dealership. Not only does it have a clean title but it also has less miles and is newer.

Which one, the one that doesn't know it doesn't have "Chrome wheels" and or at least a Gen 2 Mugen strut tower bar?

Uhh yeah.

Who cares about the mugen strut bar? It can always be replaced and its a dealer, I could care less if they think it has "chrome wheels." In the pic it looks like it has the stock gunmetal rims. Most dealers don't even know what a itr is unless its a honda or acura dealer. Last year there was a ford dealership that sold a 98 itr for $11,000. Clean title, no accidents and it only had 30k miles. When I called they had no idea what it was worth but they sold it within a week.

I'll bet that dealer car doesn't know what it has. If they're not stock wheels however, I'm not going to buy it. But yes, the salvaged R is basically out of question now. See, I can't go too far away because I have school M-F, so I'd have to make it back. Thanks for the advice though guys, I'll keep you posted on my search for a R.

I think I have seen it around, looked alright but as others have said, salvage/rebuilt titles are'nt worth crap in the long run, maybe for like 11-12k but still if you ever have to sell it have fun. Ask for detailed pics and if you like it Offer 11 just to see what he says.

the guy only is asking for $11,500 for it..

i talked to him the other day.. it's a theft recovery salvage title, bought from Cali.. interior and motor were stolen and replaced.. might be fine, but as others have said, a theft recovery title would be a pain to register, insure, or resell..
