Speedo goin Wacko intermittently then drops dead
Well about 3 months ago, my speedo started goin to zero, flop back to speed, doin all kinds of weird not good stuff. 2 weeks later it cured itself somehow, no problems up till now. On my way home from school today, btw with my new X50 radar which has proven me GOOD in a well investment. Anyway it started back up again. Rapidly fluactauting speeds, real abnormal looking, CEL comes on after driving with the speedo at zero for awhile.
ALso the D4 auto light on the gauge starts blinking.
Is it the VSS? gauge cluster I think isn't likely but im not sure?

its the VSS, i just changed mine with the same symptoms. YOu can basically use any VSS from any honda and it should work. I used a civic one i had laying around on my accord.

mainly igniter</TD></TR></TABLE>
Well I recently installed AEM pulleys, which I know slowed down my alternator abit, normally running at about 13 volt and under, due to stereo system. BUT I also just got a brand new Optima Yellow top, So I believe whatevery the alternator cant provide for the engine atleast the battery can make up for it.
I just called the Honda dealer which quoted me $137, I seen some on ebay for about 40-50. Is the VSS basically a plug and connector?? Or is there more to it that sticks into the tranny? Ebay just shows the plug and connector, so I wanna make sure thats complete to get my car showing speed again

the VSS screws into a gear that goes into the tranny. it attaches with two 10mm bolts. Very easy once you take your intake off you will see the VSS under the throttle body.
So the VSS has nothing to do with the gear shaft? Meaning I can just replace the VSS and not worry about changing the Gearshaft as well?
Do the Gearshaft go bad? or only really the VSS?
Thanks

I have the same problem on my accord 94 2.2L V-Tec. I just didn't suspected the VSS since my cruise control is working properly and on the wiring diagram I have, the cruise control unit is using data from the VSS to regulate speed... Maybe the signal from VSS is still enought powerfull for the cruise, but limit for the speedo... any idea about that??
