Default vtec question

I was jus kinda wonderin ..what engages the v-tec on my engine, how does it work and what does it do for the car, and how high does it have to rev before it kicks in. My friend installed a COI on his car and he said he can hear it kick in a lot better now...

detailed info....but basically only your intake side is affected due to the single cam. i also believe that the SOHC VTEC's are based on throttle instead of an actual RPM (like the h22, etc...).

edit: anytime you remove any restrictions from the air flow (stock intake, etc...) you'll notice this kind of stuff
