cold air vs short ram air
hey guys, i have a 4cyl 02 accord and am looking to buy an intake in the near future. So far i have it narrowed down to AEM, injen, and weapon R. i'm definitely on a budget here, so i'm trying to find something that works well, but isn't going to kill my wallet. any suggestions? thanks
This question is pretty much asked everyday, and from reading those posts many recommend buying a cheap intake from Ebay and then put a K&N filter on it.
Look into it.

well i tried an ebay cold air intake. A huge storm came through Fort Worth last summer and flooded everything. Basically my car took in water and it cost about $6,100 to fix everything, leaving me with a rebuilt motor. i will never go back to ebay for an intake again.
It's not eBay's fault if that happened. You should just get an eBay tube and put a good K&N filter on it. The most important part is the filter: better yet. Buy an ebay short ram, paint it high temp black to help cool it, and put a good K&N filter on it. youll have good performance for 1/3 of the price.

As stated, it isn't Ebay's fault. With any CAI you should use a by-pass-valve to prevent hydro-lock. Damn, with that much money you could have been driving around in a nice H22 setup.

yeah.. luckily insurance covered it all because it was the weather's fault. mm a H-22 setup would definitely be nice. *drool* but for now, i'm startin small, since i'm on a tight budget. i'm sure a lot of people know what i mean. so if you had to choose an intake that's not ebay related, what would it be?

theres absolutely nothing wrong with ebay intakes... you didnt have a bypass valve on ur intake so that allowed water to be sucked up.... now if you hadf the bypass valve, that wouldnt have happened. basically you took the risk of not running a bypass valve and ruined the engine urself. ebay has nothing to do with it, and nor does the quality of the ebay intake. an ebay CAI with a K&N filter and a good bypass valve is what you want if you are going the CAI route. if it were me, i would go short ram with a K&N, which is, surprise surprise, what i have.

I got the AEM CAI with bypassvalve and k&n filter, and I got no complaints. However, if I were you I would go with an ebay intake with k&n filter. Remember that a bypassvalve is a must if you are using a CAI.
