Default hard cornering causes limited rev to 4K('02 si)

Twice this problem has happened, fixed the problem by reseting the computer. I was making a sharp left turn and the car started to sputter at 4K. After that it seems I'm limited to 4000 rpm in any gear. I disconnect the battery and problem solved. Sorta. The first time this happened I had about a 1/4 tank, this time I had a little over 1/2 tank. Also, the engine light came on both times. The manual says check the fuel cap. Did that along with disconnecting the battery. Any suggestions on stopping this from happening again would be appreciated.

Another note, it has always seemed that when cornering it doesn't accelerate like it does on the straights until it comes out of the corner.

Thanx.

possibly your fuel sloshing to one side of the tank. see if it does the same thing with a full tank of gas.

Check your oil level.

I'd check the oil. I autocross on less than a 1/4 tank (as shown on the gauge) and it's been fine so I don't think it's your fuel.

Yeah, I've autocrossed the EP3 with the fuel light on and got no fuel starvation. I'd check the oil and go from there.

I would go with the oil level being low. The engine will go into limp mode and limit the revs to 4k if it's low on oil to prevent engine damage. (I think that's a great idea for these types of situations)

It has to be the oil. Because when you reset the ecu it has to check all the functions over again and that takes time. So thats why it wouldn't do it right away after the ecu is reset. So check the oil.

Yup, my girls 04 was doing the same thing. We took it to Honda for the check engine light and an oil change. He said once the changed the oil it was fixed. Its a safety thing, when oil pressure is low it wont let you go passed 4k.

well said Civic_tuner.

to spell it out even more....

Controlled by the ECU, when an amount of oil pressure is percieved as being to low, the ECU will issue a fuel cut or act accordingly, ie NO F*&%ING VTEC.

same issue I had in the turn 6 at Summit Point in the EP. 4K, engine light..... I never was able to go back out to the track to test it out again. Looks like I'll be in the TYPE-R for this weekends Summit event though.
And ya, everyone and their mother said oil, when the check engine light read fuel.

Thanks,
-Victor

its a safe mode, when u take turns a certain way all the oil goes to one side making the car think its low on oil, this puts the car in a safe mode soo u dont over rev and ruin stuff. it happens to my friend in his civic coupe

Instead of resetting the ECU when you get a CEL, why don't you scan it and see what code and problem you have, instead of asking us to take a shot in the dark?
