i got a project car (89 hatch std) and it doesnt come with a key, the previous owner cant find it. He opened the stearing wheel so it will not lock and i could tow it.

How can i get the car to crank? couldnt i just jump off the wires leading to the ignition to start the car?

What wires do i need to connect to start the car?

before anyone ask it comes with a title and all the vins match up....

If you take the vin to the dealer, they can probably get the key code for the car from it and cut a new key. There is a small chance that it won't work for a car that old, but I'm pretty sure it will. You'll probably need proof of ownership.

If you really want to hotwire it, you'll need to jump the white/black wire to black/yellow, yellow, white/red and blue/white (might not have this). Then touch the white wire to the black/white wire. All this fun happens on the ignition switch wiring harness under the dash. Hotwiring 101.

I just got keys cut for my hooptie *** civic at the dealer...$6 each. Just go to the dealership with the VIN and proof of ownership (my car isn't registered...I just brought the title/license and I was ok).
