Default # of cam gear bolts, does it matter?

OK, so I am looking at getting some cam gears to go with some Crower cams

Crower has 5 bolt, people always recommend Skunk2 because thhey have 6 bolt

everyone says stay away from AEM ccuz they have 3 bolt

But what about 4 bolt... Buddy Club, Jun, Toda and Spoon all use 4 bolts... is 4 bolt safe/reliable?

Many simply count bolts. While the more bolts will help minimize the chances of slippage, one thing many fail to consider this "where the bolts are at" If you look at the skunks, the bolts are closer to the center, so there ability of hold the torque is less effective, if the bolts were now the outer edge. Effectively the bolts have more leverage if they are further from the center. From a durability, easy and reading and dialing in, and "style" I would recommend the STR 570 Pro's. 5-bolt design with bolts near outer edge, vernier degree scale for easy reading and precision degreeing.

interesting stuff... makes sense. the buddy club cam gears have the bolts far on the outside, and also have the same markers to tune

I'll do more research

anyone have ay idea what they should weigh? The crower ones weigh 310grams.

I would say more likely to slip from torque, as the crank is what is driving the t-belt which is driving the gears. Also if you are running stiffer springs this increases cams resistance to rotate, thus putting more torque on the cam gears.

I have skunk2s on itr cams in my B16 and i've had no problem with slippage at all (given it is a relatively low torque aplication)
