CEL light on after new cat installed
I recently had a new exhaust and high flow cat put on my 98 Prelude. The CEL came on, so i took it to a shop. I was thinking it was the 02 sensor, which it was. The mechanic said that it was the sensor in front of the cat and that there was no way to get the light to turn off unless they could reprogram the ECU. So my question, is there a way to fix this problem without reprograming the ECU or should i just buy a new one? And if I do buy a new one, what kind?
All you have to do to reset the ECU is remove the clock/radio fuse under the hood in the fuse box briefly, or take off the Negative cable from battery for 10 minutes, but get your radio code first if you need one. This is assuming your o2 sensor is now fixed and not giving out fault codes again ?

that doesn't work with OBDII.
you don't need to reprogram the ECU, you just need a o2 simulator or an obdii compliant cat, the o2 sim will be easier to get.

Well we have to pass a yearly emmissions test which is part of our MOT test here, the MOT is like a safety check ie steering, susp, brakes etc among others. It is strict I don't know the actual readings, but if the car dosn't pass this emmission and MOT then you can't legally use the car, so I suppose it's fairly strict but fair. I understand from posts that your tests are very strict ?
