Default More Power out of my B18B

Got a 89 Civic Dx with a b18b in it... the car is a track car but I havent really done anything with the engine yet except for msd ignition sys.

Are there any hi rev race cams out there.. something with large peak power (dosent matter if it is a lumpy idol... the car runs on road circut not drag tracks and never really gets below 3000 rpm)...

Also are there any other mods I can go with for added power and saftey without going to a turbo setup...

I am going to replace the valve springs shortly.. is there anything else I can use to get some sweet *** hi rpm power?

Well sure you can. It comes down to $$$. I mean if you just want an all out non-vtec you could sink a hell of a lot into it n/a.

You could do sleeves to 84-87mm 13+:1 compression, headwork, custom cams etc.... Your talking probably a $10K engine build start to finish.

If you want a H/C H1 build, run CTR's and Crower 405A's or Crane 16's.

If you want something milder run P30 B16A's and Crower 403's or Crane 12's/14's something of that nature. If you're going to upgrade valvetrain you might as well do a mild cam and fpr/cam gears/S-AFC tuning etc...

EDIT: oh yeah, ditch the MSD and make sure you have quality bolt-on's already.

$$$ is the deciding factor, 99% of the time.

Dont use 405's they require machine work to valvetrain!

Go with the 404's and probably either P30 Pistons or CTR's!
Also get a B16 tranny and like Mr. Hammond said use some good quality bolt-ons!!

$$$ could be a factor, but as far as an LS goes, they are cheap to build! I built mine for a lil over $2K!!

Right. Which is EXACTLY why I said 405A's

They drop in just fine.

B16/ITR tranny a must.

My bad! I want to run the 405A's over my 404's however I do not know much about them b/c there isn't very many ppl that use them!

Also I wonder what exactly do you have to do to the head + valvetrain to run the 405's?

Talk to LSiTurbo. He has a pretty nasty B20 running like 12.5:1+ and Crower 405A's. He works at MidAtlantic Motorsports. Big supporter of them.

It's funny you mentioned that. I noticed the same thing on the D-series cams so I called Brian Crower today and talked to him for a little while. Turns out the warning on the Stage 3 SOHC cams is more of a scare tactic for people who just want to drop the biggest cam they can in and do nothing else. He recomends head work, minimum tuning devices, upgraded valve train etc.... They do drop in. HOWEVER on the B18A/B's the 405's require some maching of rocker arms and some other stuff that sorry I wasn't paying much attention to, but if you call Brian he will be more then happy to answer your questions. He was very helpful. If I do go with this (which I probably will atleast for the 1st season) I'm using the Stage 3 Crower unless other options become available to look into.

I have tried to talk to LSiTurbo and his buddy at Mid-Atlantic Motor that has the ITB's on his LS, however I havent got any responses from him! I appreciate the info you dug up and I will call Brian Crower! The Crower company is down the road from where I live in San Diego and I might just go down there and check out the place while Im stationed here!

Any info you wish to share with me on LS's and B20's is appreciated.
