Default Will stock b18b cams make power to 8k?

I'm about to buy a built up b18b and I know I will be able to rev it higher, but will the cams still make power to 8K which is where I want to take it?

I have a dyno of my stock LST making power to 7k, although the torque starts falling off around 6.5 K.

you wont make much more power over 7300-7500rpm.

the torque will drop off pretty fast after 7k anyway.........

Even with upgraded valve train and a PnP? I'm gonna switch it out anyway with the a b16 head I got anyway, I just wanted to know.

if you ported the LS head and got a good flowing intake manifold (skunk2, blox, victorX) then you might make some decent power a little over 7k.

maybe even some adjustable cam gears to tune/shift the power band higher but you will sacrifice low end/spool time.

but honestly why bother?...you just said you will put a vtec head on in the future so just save your money for that setup instead.

Yeah, thats what I'm gonna do, but I'm putting a b18b block with a ported and polished head into the car now, and I wanted to know were this one was going to make power to so I know where to set the redline at. It's built so I figure i'd run 15 psi and rev it out to 8k, and swap the head later.

The cams won't make power over about 7400rpm regardless of the work done to the head. There's only so much lift and duration in the lobes, and that's the rough maximum. If you're using a B16 head in your build it doesn't matter anyway because you won't be using non-VTEC cams.

PS - it's not necessary to run super high rpm when boosting.

The tune from a non-vtec head will be nothing like the tune needed for the vtec head - not one bit. You've also never run a boosted motor, at least not a streetable one. I hit redline the other day, only because the clutch started slipping. Other than that, its been a few months, and its WAY faster than any other motor I've driven that had to be taken to redline.

I'm running a boosted motor right now?
