Bad day with amp install
My friend got a free system from his cuz and he has been harassing to to install it. So I finally get a kit together and get to work. I got everything ran (power wire, rca's, remote, ground) and I got power to the amp. Well at least I think I did, the light came one. The problem is that his equip is a but older and he says that it worked last time it was hooked up. He has a 4 channel amp and 2 12's. I can't get anything outta the amp because I am confused about bridging it and I don't know how well his speakers are because my amp barely got any sound outta them.
Ok sorry for the story, what I am asking is there anyway to test an amp for power, or if it is working properly?

so, you are trying to run a four channel amp on subs?
Most 4 channel amps don't have the power to run subs, unless you get a 200 x 4 kicker amp or what not and bridge all channels.
Be careful of the impedence as well. DVC, SVC does the amp run at 2 ohms?

I wouldn't say most.
PG 475 TI rated 75 X 4
bridged 250X 2
can run you a pair of W6.
I can name plenty more 4 channel amps that can run subs.

Personally I'd check to make sure that you have all good connections.
While the amp is hooked up in the car, get a multimeter and do a continuity test between the ground on the amp and a ground on the car (where there is no paint). Once you can tell that there is a good connection, then make sure that you're getting 12V's at the remote wire and power wire, at the amp. If you have 12V, ground, 12V's, then make sure your RCA's are plugged into the correct inputs (you'd be surprised how often the RCA's are plugged into the "output" rather than the "input"). If all is still hooked up properly, then you might have a bad amp, or your RCA preouts from your radio could be bad. To rule out a bad amp, see if you can go to a stereo shop and have them use a tone generator. This will play a certain frequency directly into your amp, and if anything comes out through the speakers, then you know your amp is good and your RCA's are pinched or your RCA preouts are bad on your radio.
Hope this helps.
