Default Car overheating when idle?

ok, really odd problem just started today. when i'm driving (car is a '94 DX hatch, all stock except for AEM short ram intake), the temp stays fine, about 40%, but starting today whenever i'm stopped for a semi-long period of time like at a stop light, after a minute or two, the car feels like it starts working harder (little more vibration) and then the temp gauge slowly goes up until it's damn near the top, but the second i push on the gas it cools back down.

Now, i'm guessing one thing is it could be my short ram intake sucking up hot air while sitting there? but i don't know much about that being possible. i checked the coolant the first time this happened today, it was almost gone so i filled it up and drove back home and it still did it on the way home.

So, does anyone have an idea what could cause my car to overheat when not moving but cool down dramatically the second i step on the gas?

just loosen that bolt and add fluid or water. check for leaks in your lines and check all of your vacuum lines. tightne that bolt when fluid starts to come out of it.

No, you shouldn't need the car running! Since water is heavier than air (and air heats up faster than coolant/water), you are loosening the bolt and filling the coolant to push any trapped air through that bleeder and out of your system!

your ither need the car running or at least the motor to be at operating tempeture or else theis no pressure in the system to leak out the air

Oh---A friend of mine had that same problem, but he hadn't changed his fluid in like 3 years or something??? Might want to put some fresh coolant in there if nothing else works!

um wtf. don't open your cooling system at operating temp. you'll get soaked with boiling hot coolant

did you make sure that your fan turns on because if your fan doesn't turn on the car will cool down when moving but it will heat up because when you are at a stop and your fan doesn't turn on, since there is no flow to cool the coolant going through the radiator it will circulate hot coolant and just get hotter and hotter. make sure there is no short to ground on the fan.

**edit**
i really doubt that there is air in your cooling system because when you have air in it, it will overheat all the time not only when you are at a stop. i am pretty sure it will be that your fan doesn't turn on

whats funny is i had this same problem when i first drove my car out of the garage after we had just dropped an ITR motor in it. i was test driving it and it kept wanting to overheat like a SON OF A BITCH especially at idle.

so on my way home i thought about trying another thermostat and/or bleeding the system but i was so pissed off because traffic kept causing me to stop and idle and overheat so (...and i don't suggest doing this) i punched into VTEC in 1st gear.
Next thing you know my temp guage dropped to norm. The whole way home, and ever since then, I've been like- WTF?

but i do not suggest popping VTEC everywhere in an attempt to fix your heat problem.
