Default does a turbo make your exhaust more quiet?

Easy question for all who are boosted? I had a turbo setup before, but I never drove the car until i built a motor for it and the first time i started it, it had a turbo on it. So i have nothing to compare to.

weird question...

I would say yes to a point (assuming same pipe dia as n/a) because it's just another restriction in the exhaust flow just like muff, res, cat, etc... all of which muffle the sound.

I'm talking for idle and cruising... as soon as you start making power that all goes out the window

I guess my question would be at like WOT. But i get what you said, it is just another restriction, even at high rpms, it still would be a restriction right? just flowing more.
would it make it noticibly less noisy at wot?

Yes it makes it alot quieter.. Thats why many tracks require a muffler if your not running a turbo..

Much quieter ! My 3" exhaust w/ just a muffler is quieter than my old 2.5" with resonators and a cat+muffler without the turbo.

my exhaust is still loud as **** i dunno what u guys are talking about. i have a resonator AND a muffler (straight through) although no cat.. but it didnt change when i put a test pipe on it stayed the same boomy tone. you guys make it seem like a turbo will silence your exhaust.. all i gotta say is hell no.

yea, it gets lower and deeper. sounds much better. my 3" exhaust and 22" long resonator makes mine purr like a kitten at idle. but it roars like a lion when you get on it. and when the wastegate open up, it is gonna scare the **** out of the people you're passing up, especially if you're dumping it through an open atmosphere tube like mine. RRRRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I'm rick james Bitch!

I drove a honda naturally aspirated for a day with a 3" catback and I had the worst headache ever, I thought my head was going to explode. A turbo honda with a 3" catback is still going to be loud, but MUCH quieter than a naturally aspirated honda, and sounds far better too.

Yes, but you need to think about just the exhaust sound and ignore the ****-your-pants spool noise. Exhaust tip to tip, it just sounds less rattly on the turbo engine.
