Default hondata

I searched for a little while but didnt see anything that really caught my eye. Im starting to learn about ECU tunning and such. I have a all motor Gs-R with a Si-R head and was wondering if hondata and a Apex-I vafc-II would be a good tunning setup , or if i even need the Vafc. Whats the best all motor Hondata tunning program. And if u could explain a little bit to me as far as what is s100 and s200 and all that. so bascially need to know yes or no on the apexi with hondata? Which one to get? And a breif explanation of what the diff models are and there tuning capabilities.

If everything is stock...cams, bottom end, ect. Then you can get away with just using a vfac. The drawback to a vfac is you are only manipulating what your ecu does, it doesn't acutally rewrite the ecu codes. It still requires some level of dyno or street tuning to be effective, and only allows you to adjust vtec and fuel delivery. Vfac= 300.00 ish + 100-200.00 tuning = 400-500.00 (plus a lot of wiring)

The Hondata systems allow a tuner the complete capability to re-map everything in your ecu from air/fuel ratio, vtec position, ect.

The S100... A chip that is placed inside your ecu (obd1 only) that allows all of the tuning capabilities you need for an n/a setup. It is available with a boost option and will work well.

The S200 is a sepearate controller box that does everything the s100 does, but has several "options" to choose from such as full throttle launch and full throttle shift, the ability to hook up a laptop in your car and tune yourself, plus some other stuff.

All you need for you setup is an S100.

I was able to find one in classifeds for 300.00 (chipped P28 obd1 ecu w. S100 already installed) + conversion harness 75.00. = ~400.00 + 200.00 in tuning.

This route is a little more expensive, but allows you to tune the car correctly and with a lot more accuracy than a vfac. Most people I know with a vfac have sold it soon after and gone hondata.

Look at hondata's website for a full explaination of what each system does. I'd hunt one down in classifieds and save a little cash.

As far as gains on a stock motor, you won't see much, maybe 5hp. But if it is modded, at least with bolt-ons' you may pick up a little more. Add some stage II cams and headwork and the difference in the way the car will drive tuned v.s untuned will be night and day.
